The strong dollar must be killing Emotiva's international business (and hurting many US based businesses in general for that matter). Their products are value based, and shipping of heavy gear is already expensive so dollar's strength really takes a bite.
Dan, perhaps you should consider quoting (internally discounted) prices directly in CAD, EUR, AUD etc for international orders and take some of the sting off...which would not necessarily be completely away from your own margins since the manufacturing (which presumably is bulk of the cost) is done in China...

I liked the look of there new Emotiva 3B speakers. Thought I could update my PC speakers. Put it in bongo with my Eclub discount ($179 a pair) and it ended up being $332 US delivered. With the Aussie dollar not doing so well it becomes too costly. Will look at alternatives locally.
You lot in the US have it lucky with free freight!!

Its disappointing that bongo has hit right as our dollar heads South. The XMC-1 and another amp were on my must buy list, but the extra hit of the bongo shipping prices make it very hard to justify sadly.

A quick summary of my recent international order & shipment; Via Bongo it would have cost me $A360.63 for shipping to Sydney. I used the Emotiva free freight to Portland Oregon, which took 11 days due to UPS errors. Then a reshipper, HopShopGo to Sydney which took 5 days, cost $A239.19. So by using HopShopGo I saved $A121.44.
Shipping time would not have been much different except for the UPS delay in picking up from Emotiva, that cost 3 days and the slow delivery to Portland another 8 days.
The HopShopGo service using DHL as the carrier was impeccable, easily tracked and fast. As I now have an account set up with my own address at HopShopGo, I see every reason to use it in the future.
Cheers Gary

Unfortunately a lot will just look elsewhere and miss out on some great Emotiva products. Also you are not as well covered with any warranty claims. This is the one area that Emotiva have been excellent and way above expectations dealing with products from another country for me.

Unfortunately a lot will just look elsewhere and miss out on some great Emotiva products. Yep, there is a little more pain involved, the service via FedEx wasn't 100% perfect but it was pretty damn good and in the value for money stakes unbeatable. Not sure what you mean by "warranty", the product warranty is the same as it always was. Sending stuff back to Emotiva Internationally is in general not worth it, but they do promptly supply replacement parts for fitting locally. So no change there. In regards to shipping damage, Bongo asks us to take out insurance and pay extra for it of course. UPS local within the US would be handled by Emotiva. HopShopGo apparently advise us if they receive anything for reshipping that's damaged. Not that I had any issues, my box arrived in the best condition of any Emotiva product and I've had 13 deliveries to date. BTW, the insurance with HopShopGo was half what Bongo wanted to change. Cheers Gary

Hi Gary I saw in another post on this forum, where if you use a US local shipping address, then Emotiva will only send spare parts to that address for free and not to Australia for eg.
So if say, a power supply went or a remote control died, you would have to pay to get it to Australia as your first shipping address was in the US. Emotiva would only cover local freight if it was shipped locally in the first place.

That's nice to know it worked out all right, Gary. Thanks for sharing. Reshipping is definitely the way to go. Was that for a specific device, or in general? This doesn't make sense to me, unless Emotiva considered the profit of not having to ship locally for non-US residents using Bongo a givven. Which they loose when the client uses a reshipping service. It does make sense when you think about it.
Lets say I am in New york and buy some Emotiva products. Free freight.
Then I move to the Sarah desert and take my Emo products with me. It costs thousands to ship something out to my remote village. Are they obliged to pay freight if something goes wrong?
I know that my example is extreme but any deliveries in the US are free. If I then move it to another country (freight forwarding), I can not expect a company to also fork out shipping.

My understanding is you pay warranty return freight and Emotiva pays to get it back to you after servicing.
I don't believe that there would be any difference for them to pay freight for service parts, except I suspect that it would be far cheaper sending parts than the whole unit. Plus of course there is Emotiva's labour saving as we would either be doing the replacing ourselves or paying someone to do it.
I've done a bit of service work for Emotiva and they sent me whatever I needed to get the unit fully functioning, including technical support. They really do look after their customers in regards to warranty and service.
Cheers Gary

We have had several mass orders to singapore and I can't say for certain that I've done repairs on those units that were shipped using our own forwarder directe from HQ to buyers here.
Emotiva always looks after its users here with direct to them or me for replacements and will often even meet 50% of the cost if someone wants parts sent via courier instead of the normal USPS service that can take a few weeks or more to get here.

My understanding is you pay warranty return freight and Emotiva pays to get it back to you after servicing. This is not my understanding of how it works, as another forum member discovered, they will ship it back to the original destination, in your case a re shipper. Still doesn't help that you saved $130, I can't imagine that the shipping state side cost less than $30. Emo should be offering freight at least $160 cheaper on that item.

So if I move house they send it to my old house? I also get stuff sent to my work, as no one is home during the day, and I'm a contractor so I change work addresses regularly. Warranty is 5 years, so the chances of not being at the same address are pretty high. The speaker cables and the trigger they are sending direct to me in Sydney, not to the reshipper. Cheers Gary

Interesting, I haven't tried to find the thread, but the lounge member concerned had an item shipped to a friend in the states who forwarded it to him, warranty for parts was only warranted to the shipping address in the states. The argument being that shipping out of the country was his responsibility.

BTW I like your sig closing line I know I'm slightly different in that I can do most servicing myself, but if I had an Emotiva item that needed work I don't know that I would send it back. I'd be far more likely to find someone locally to do it for me, once the problem is identified, swapping boards is almost always going to be the solution. The cost of the board and the freight is borne by Emotiva and I suspect that the cost of swapping a board will be substantially less than the cost of freight to Emotiva. Plus it's going to be a whole lot faster. Cheers Gary

The XPA-1L arrived on Friday, opened it up Saturday morning to do the install and no XSS-1 speaker cables or trigger cable. Quick email to Emotiva Support, I'm sure they will get onto it first thing Monday. Luckily I had a spare trigger cable and I made up some short speaker cables as a temporary solution. Initial sound review in the XPA-1....: Cheers Gary Hi Gary Did you order a set of the X SS cables separately? I recently got a pair of the XPA-1L and got only the trigger cables only with it.

Yep, I ordered and paid for a pair of XSS-1's at the same time. Fit in the box no extra freight. Usually we get a power cord and a trigger cable with each amp. I asked for a 14 gauge power cord which I got, but no trigger cable. So Emptiva are sending me the missing trigger cable and the pair of XSS-1's. Cheers Gary

Tried to order the xmc-1 last night, but the e-club saving is not working.
Any ideas?

I can't exactly remember what I did but I think you have to be logged in so the cart knows who you are.
Also, check that e-club shows up in your orders.
