Is Dirac possible? Wouldn't you need AtoD and DtoA conversions? And a built-in tone generator, processor and internet connection in the pre-amp to upload the file from the Dirac servers, plus a local computer running Dirac (like the xmc-1 has)? All that digital noise generating in your preamp?
I think the whole point of a standalone preamp is analogue purity for it's Phono (vinyl record cartridge) input. To get away from the corruption caused by the digital stuff of a HT Processor. That you can plug a cd player into it is just a bonus.
Hey, you can buy a umc-200 for almost the same money as a Preamp, which is ideally suited for digital CD players.
