Smart TVs and ARM based mini PCs have practically killed off the HTPC for most people. My #1 transport though is a HTPC. Actually it's my only transport! Actually I have an Oppo as a source as well in my system, but I only use it for discs. I much prefer to search, sort, and play my music with a mouse. Well video too. I'll have the Amazon Music Player open in one tab and this forum open in another. Or internet radio, or off my hard drive or.... Unless a media player can be controlled with a mouse, I'm not interested.

This is what emotiva had at emofest. I think that prototype was based on boards available from a company called Streamunlimited.

There are so many options for streaming out there, and some are very effective and inexpensive. I was not surprised emo shelved their effort. You can run a Sonos Connect and run digital out into any good DAC and have quality as good as you can get from most of the net.

When I jumped on the Squeezebox bandwagon, they supported up,to 24/96 and more with EDO... Sonos was 24/48 max.

No...that is still the Sonos limit. But for most internet radio that is god enough for me. For streaming high res you need something different.

My latest iteration of my network streamer: iFi USB Power Supply ($200) Squeezebox Touch ($300) EDO App - Free Meridian Explorer DAC ($150 new from Audio Advisor).... So I have $650 in it... Lonnie- Build it and they will come.
This is a killer solution and sounds great with my USP-1 and Sherbourn PA2-50 (Mini-X)...

It's been awhile since I last visited, so I've been reading posts to get up to date on the progress. So, where does Emotiva stand regarding a network audio player? Is the plan still alive and kicking, or has Emotiva decided not to go this route?
There is no doubt in my mind if Emotiva would bring a network audio player to market and price it within reason, there are consumers who will buy this product. Look how successful the XPS-1 phono preamp has been and Emotiva does not sell a turntable. One problem with the network audio players that are available is the price is in excess of $1000. These are out of my price range.
Dan, Lonnie, Andrew... Would someone please respond and let us know if a network audio player will be considered to be a part of the Emotiva family. Any information you can provide will be very much appreciated.

Lots of new stuff for 2015 but no network player. I'm looking elsewhere for one as well.

Yeah, for those who keep wishing for one, I would stop wishing. There are so many options that are very low in cost and high in quality, there just is not space for them to have something truly special form a cost/performance POV. When you can run a Sonos connect into an XMC or nice DAC to a preamp, it's hard to beat the price and amazingly great user interface.
And that is just one option.

I recently bought the Dennon link, from Dennon, and it works fantastic with my Emotiva setup ( XDA-2---> USP-1---> UPA-2---> Def Techs BP8'8). It has still some limited streaming choices, but it has way more inputs and outputs compared to my Sonos Connect, and I can trigger start or shut down my system using the app.

Where is the screen you see and can select your songs on the Sonos connect and Denon HEOS Link? They are just square boxes. Why can't they put a little screen on them with a couple controls to select your music ?

On the Sonos, you control it from any smartphone or tablet or PC. Really great interface.

And that is better than any little screen on a box several feet away!

I have need for a device that operates independent of a computer, wired or wireless network. This device would include a hard drive to store CD quality and higher music files and a operating system that will play CD quality and higher music files. The interface would include a small screen that allows view of the menu of playback operations and the music library. Interfacing with the operating system would be with physical hardware buttons and not touch screen. The device would have no DAC, Preamp or amplification. It would simply supply a digital out of the internally stored music files using the simple interface. It's power supply would come from a wall outlet.
Currently I am using a Sony NWZ-A17 portable music player with 192gb storage connected USB digital out to a Stealth DC-1 DAC. After I purchased the Sony NWZ-A17 I looked hard and long to find anyone using a portable player with a Stealth DC-1 DAC and could not find anyone reporting that it possible anywhere on the internet. I purchases the Stealth DC-1 to find out if it was possible and got lucky. I still wonder if anyone is able to use an ipad, iphone or any of the other mobile devices with Android connected to the Stealth DC-1 DAC with USB. I currently do not need all the features that the Sony NWZ-A17 portable music player includes such as DAC and headphone out. The Sony NWZ-A17 also uses a rechargeable battery and I would prefer a device that would not require recharging and reside permanently with the stand alone music system. The Sony NWZ-A17 performs the task of hard drive, operating system and interface wonderfully and cost $300 dollars. I would think that a stand alone music player as I described above would cost no more or less.

Wouldn't it just be great to have squeezelite implemented in XMC-1?
The prepro is based on Linux OS, has an ethernet connection, a big display and a great DAC section...
LMS is already available in many NAS already and the (hopefully) upcoming ickStream platform would open access to many hi-end streaming services. I know, that Logitech does not develop their Squeeze business any further, but it still has a big installed base and some open source development going on. But maybe there are restrictions using that code on commercial devices...
