Yesterday, I was driving thru a tiny village and stopped at a yard sale to look for records. An 84 year old gentleman was selling off some junk. I didn't see any records, but asked anyway. He said yes, and took me back into his garage. In the corner was a stack of lp's perilously piled about three feet high(!). He said they belonged to his brother, who died recently at the age of nearly 90, who was a collector.
I went thru the pile. Much of it was country, which doesn't interest me, but I bought about a 100 albums at $1 each. Sadly, the brother wasn't being respectful of the collection. There were about 20 sleeveless records, and a similar bunch of empties. Someone needs to go thru and sort things out and store them properly.
Going thru my purchases today, I discovered a half-dozen records in the wrong covers. Clearly, the previous owner was still enjoying the collection right up to the last, but thru failing eyesight or senility was unable to look after it. The unsleeved bunch in the garage, were likely the stack of most recently played. Sad to think of someone fading away like that, and a treasured collection so thoughtlessly dumped in the garage.
There were also probably 750 old 78 rpm disks there, that are probably quite valuable now, also carelessly piled in the garage.
Sincerely, /b
