I completely formatted the hard drive and re ripped with the default settings and now what'll you say I think is true, there are enters pointing to the same music file, Two or three of them pointing because I reloaded the HD instead of repopulating it. This makes a lot of sence but at this journey I'm way beyond the ability to mess with it at this moment. I would stay up half the night getting frustrated and I have to work in the morning. This may be a job for when I have time to mess with it. Tomorrow or Sunday afternoon. Starting a thread here at Emo is so great because we trust our friends on this site and were all here to help each other. Plus I find the wiki and forum at JRivers just so daunting and near impossible to navigate quickly or at all. Shoot, I'm still learning how to use this site,,,,,,,no cracks about OL dogs and such please,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,
Wow, just looked at the clock!,
Thank-you so very much and I look forward to future visits to your new thread when you start it up, digital is still new for this analog kind of guy!!

For ripping I'd take a look at dbPowerAmp as it has all kinds of batch ripping abilities and these DSP plug features that includes automatic playlist generation as well as meta replay gain and EBU R128. Meta replay gain on both a track and album level is a MUST if you wish to have playlists from different albums that all play at the same level. What JRiver is for playback dbPoweramp is for ripping! GET IT!

Of course there's a better way. I don't have jRiver in front of me at the moment, but look up something called "playlists" in the Help (that's what everybody calls them these days). Basically, instead of picking just one song, you can pick a whole bunch of songs and add them all onto one big list on the screen - and jRiver will play them in order. You can then save this list (they're called "playlists"); then, whenever you want to play the same songs, you just play that single playlist and jRiver plays everything on it for you. OK I figured out how to { How do you guys rip your Sound tracks, Compilations, multi artist type discs, is there a special way to do so? I was going to listen to some cool trance tunes but I have to find, and play every single track one at a time a major PITA. I know Itune does this as well, I would think this day and age the're would be a better way to do this.} I just when to the Theater viewing, and looked them up using Albums, that was easy! DJoel. Cool, got it sarcasm and all , I have tons of Soundtrack, and compilations as well, I want to avoid the playlist thing. I guess I can try it out once I'm done Ripping 500 plus cd, I don't see no end at the moment Thanks Dan

+1 for novisnick's advice - A JRiver rip is 100% as accurate as any other UNLESS the disc has major problems (scratches, burn problems, etc.). If you have to "interpolate" or re-read to get the bits, then the other programs probably are better, but ask yourself why you'd bother to rip a damaged disc in the first place? I've used the computer to do a "verify" of JRiver rips and have yet to see any differences between the source and ripped file.

Does Jriver support AccurateRip and have id3 tag lookup from four sources? Can JRiver rip into mp3 and FLAC at once with one pass of the disc?

No, solidstate - JRiver can't do any of those things. I've never claimed that JRiver is a better ripper than dbPowerAmp or EAC. Those programs ARE superior. But for a well-known, commercial disc that is supported in the two major music libraries (Amazon & IMDB), the tags come out perfect every time. I don't rip to but a single format (as do 99.99% of those who bother to rip CDs). Therefore, the additional capabilities of your favorite program are academic.
JRiver isn't the best (nor is it perfect), but it is close enough for most of us.
Cordially - Boomzilla

But I find no use for ripping mp3 s at all. Also, I'm done with ripping all my CDs and don't see the need to rip them again. But this may be good advice for those going in that direction.

KeithL, you caused me to look in a more direct fashion and I think ( Pray ) I've found my solution. I'm in the process of importing my music to JRivers on my Mini. It read zero files before I started so this should be " Money " Library tools is where I found the hopeful solution.
I don't think I would have found them this fast without your help. Thank You so very much,,,,,,I hope,,,,,at least everyone cross your fingers for me. Analog guy drifting into a digital world,,,,,,,,,head first and loving it!!,!

Nick,
Search for .cue .m3u or .m3u8 playlist files in your disk. If JRiver finds any of those it'll load them into your library as well giving you duplicates or triplicates.
Either delete those files as I did (unless you have any other use for them) or change the types of files to import in JRiver Import options and exclude those.

This may or may not help but I;ll share it anyway: On my music repository I created a separate folder for playlists and I place all the playlist files in that folder. This way I can either play albums tracks in the usual way or play a playlist.

Nick.... Since you're using a Mac, are you sure that iTunes isn't also "auto-importing" your rips? I no longer use it, but I believe iTunes will copy music files to its own library unless you disable that function.. I use Audirvana as a player on my Mac Mini and had to disable certain preference within iTunes to avoid duplicate files in my iTunes library. Just a thought.....
