I would be just as dissapointed as most of these people over these mistakes. I guess I've have had good audio karma.

My worst mistake ? Buying $40K worth of Bang & Olufsen audio gear. Great looking stuff, really well designed and built, sounded fine, but WAY over priced!! The gear was more a statement about industrial design than value for money. On the plus side...that's a sweet wall unit you've got there!

Probably back in the 90s when I spent $25k for a Runco 980 Ultra and about the same amount (foggy memory) for a Snell & Wilcox Interpolator to pair with it.
Yes, it was a great picture at that time, but sheesh... you can get better for 10% of the price now.

Selling my Apple stock just before the iPhone came out. Would have had 7000 shares now. Bought 500 at $15, split two to one then 7 to one. ;-) Oh well, just would have been trusting in something that couldn't ultimately make me happy...

1) Selling a 1936 or '37 Gibson ES 125 for $ 100. It wasn't a great guitar, with a neck as thick as a tree trunk, but definitely would have cool factor today. 2) Letting my then fiance convince me to sell my Maggie Tympani I-D's, but she's put up with being married to me for 24 years. 3) Putting an AES tube amp in our coat closet. A rain jacket fell off its hanger. Toasted a $ 400 Marmot Goretex jacket AND an original Western Electric 300B tube.
Still nothing as bad as what happened to a college roommate. His father had been the winner on the old TV show "The $ 128k Question", on his knowledge of big band jazz. My roommate left a crate of his dad's prized lp's in the back seat of his car on a hot Memphis day....

Selling my EV Aristocrats IN 1971 for a pair of Bose 901s. Oh Lord, you got sucked in too! You were too new to know or just didn't notice they were secretly driving the original 901's with a two huge Mac amps. Your EV's were probably fine with 5-25 watts. Then you went home and thought, gee I don't have a bare wall behind the 901's to reflect 8/9th of the sound (sounded like a good idea in the ad or from the salesman's mouth). Then you realized that little equalizer box boosted the lower bass by as much as 18dB's. Where's the Beaf Bass, Bose?

They were using MACs in the demo room and I was young and stupid. I purchased a Sansui AU-999 to drive them and with the EQ boost they'd clip on anything with low bass. The Cornwalls in '73 fixed all! The story that goes with this occurred on the day the Cornwalls were delivered. It was a bright sunny day with many of the neighbors sitting out on their back steps. I lived in an apartment complex and I have to admit to tormenting the neighbors on occasion. When the dealer's truck pulled into the parking lot, the dealer first came into the house to pack up and load the 901s. You could see the joy sweep over the crowd with their assumption that the source of abuse was being removed. Next the dealer unpacked the Cornwalls on the sidewalk. Joy quickly turned to dismay at the sight of the big 15" woofers and a box the size of a small doghouse.

This is one of the " What a Mistake " stories yet!! but I do have a set of 901s as my front hights being pusher by a Shearbourn 2/150 and they do a great job at that!! Only use I've found them good for! One day I'll blow them up with my XPR-1s,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,, just to watch them smoke,,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe!
