Not wanting to beat a dead dog I just felt some deja vu. Yesterday I listened to some music using my XPA-100's, Xiang Sheng 728A tube preamp, ERC-1, JBL ES30 bookshelf speakers, with the dual ES 150 subs. I had a little jam session during which I was able to listen to and watch Lady Gaga, and Tony Bennett's Cheek to Cheek Live PBS concert. I am a fan. I had already purchase the CD and listened to it, but I had not yet watched the PBS Live concert, but I needed to because it was about to be erased by the DVR.
I've been moving the speakers around as I often do with a new set up looking for the best sound, and soundstage presentation. The longer I listen the more I enjoy these bookshelf speakers. This set up is as "snacker" put it my "C" set up. At first I designated it C because I felt the other two system configurations sound better. Now I'm not so sure if that's a valid conclusion. But it works for me just because it was the third system I purchased.
I finished the concert and continued listening to music until the Bulls basketball game started then I just left the system on idling and got into the game. Some time after halftime I got a knock at the door. It was my friend that I mentioned in my OP he was case number two guy. His name is Sammy. Sammy stopped by to see if I had been trying to reach him and to give me his new phone number. We caught up over a beer, and he was admiring the new dual sub's because he hadn't noticed them on his last visit. I asked if he'd like to hear them so I put some music on. He listened to the bookshelf system for several songs. Then he got up and walked around the room to hear them from different positions. He was impressed so I mentioned to him that these were in fact my least expensive speaker system. That's when the" daja vu kicked in" here we go again... he was like right down all the names of your equipment so I can go home and read about them on line. I just looked at him and smiled.
If you read the OP that is what he asked me to do before which I did. Then each time I asked him if he visited Emotiva's website he would look at me like I was crazy. Like what the hell is Emotiva. When he comes by and hears my equipment he very excited. Then he gets in his car to go home and poof it's forgotten until the next visit. Sammy said the only things he recognized on my equipment rack was the cable box, and modem. He was clueless as to what the other pieces of equipment are or what they had to do with the sound. He looked at the thickness of my speaker cables and said they must be carrying a lot of electricity being that thick. I continue find the whole thing very interesting.
