Thanks to all the members that helped me over in the Greenroom I figured I'd start a DIY thread. Thanks guys. Well, after much delibaration I decided to take on the ultimate challenge. "DIY SUBS" Two of them to be exact. I'm going with two SI HT18 DV4 and the iNUKE NU3000DSP to drive them. I've often wondered how a ported sub would perform in my tiny theater room (10x13x7.6) so I chose to go with the Martycube design as my first DIY Sub. Thanks fattykidd for the link My second sub build will be the DIY Sound Group sealed sub from Erich The reason for this is simple... I want to compare ported vs sealed at the same time. The loser will be sold off, unfinished box only of course and the winner will be nicely finished and will get a sibling to play with. Since Erich from doesn't have the flat pack for the sealed design in stock for another week or two I figured I'd go to HD and pick up some 3/4 MDF for the Marty sub build. The guy there was nice enough to cut all the pieces for me. Thanks HD guy . If I can figure out WTH is wrong with Photobucket I'll start uploading some pic's of the build. Subs I've owned, ML Dynamos, Epik Empires, JL Fathom F113, Submersive HP.

I just double checked all the cut pieces from Home Depot and couldn't help but notice that some of them are a little off. I'm afraid that the box won't be assembled properly because the cuts are not perfectly squared. I may have to re-cut all of them to ensure proper alignment.
This is going to set me back a bit but that's ok. I want to ensure that this box is rock solid.
"If you build it, they will come" lol

Well this is as far as could get today. Waisted a lot of time going back to HD because one of the pieces were cut short. What's left to do is make the cut outs for the woofer and cut the support pieces. I can't seem to find the cut-out specs for the woofer. Can someone post them for me? Both inner and outer baffle. Thanks. I'm also thinking of adding a third baffle to cover the entire front face to give it a nice clean look. I hope to get working on it again by Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Mounting diameter is 42.4 cm(16.7 inches) and if you're doing a recess it's 47 cm (18.5 inches)... Looks like You're making good headway...

So far so good, only one minor set back with the rear port panel that was cut short. Had to pick up a router while at HD to correct alot of bad cuts, and make the woofer cut-outs as well. I'll be making all the cuts on the next build myself. Thanks for putting the spec's up for me.

I am very excited for this build. Congratulations on taking the initiative on such an ambitious DIY project. Your reward will be a much better subwoofer than your investment would have provided, had you just bought one. Plus the "I did it myself" factor makes them sound better too.

You have quite the subwoofer history hehe. Looking forward to how this turns out compared to whatever was your favorite (store bought) sub. If the internet is to be believed nothing tops well made self built subs. I always feel like everybody else has fantastic woodworking skills when scrolling though these build threads hehe.

The JL is an amazing sub as were all of the single subs I've owned but it seems that a I'm not a one sub kind of guy. I've always been more satisfied with two subs in the room rather than one. The Empire's were the most tactical of the bunch. Probably because I had them placed one up front and one behind my seat. Believe it or not I would've kept them had the opportunity for the JL not come around.
This build is really taking a long time to complete due to my work schedule. I hope to have it out together by next week.
Hopefully the sealed box from Erich will be available by then. That build should be fairly easier because it's a flat pack.

Looks awesome. Keep the pics coming! Are you gonna paint it? Btw, your old Empires are still thumpin hard, now with a Crown XLS2000. This crown hits much harder than the stock ones that fried. The power meters on the amp barely come on. Speakin of amps, did you consider Crown? I had a EP4000(without fan mod) and I was also considering the inuke3000dsp also when they were on sale for $170, but fan noise kept me from going continuing down the Behringer route. The behringer was loud from 5feet away. I only mention this because I assume the amp will be close by from your listeing position. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using proboards

It saddens me that my sub build has come to a complete stop. I haven't been able to work on it since I last updated photos. My theater room looks like a tool shed and I haven't been able to enjoy it. WTH... It's time to scrap the project and get back to watching movies. I'll most likely return the si subs and If I have to have pay return shipping and a re-stock fee I'll be putting them up for sale.
Let me if you guy's are interested in the subs.
As for the box if you live in the area and want to come pick it up! It's all yours...for free...
