hello, I'm going to listen to a pair of electrocompaniet AW400 tomorrow, anyone heard them and compared that to Emotiva amps already? I found a half price deal, same price as my 4 XPA-1's ... Thanks in advance! Charles

Back from the test it was a bit biaised, nice rectangular room with treatment on the walls and ceiling the 2 (massive) AW400 were hooked up to DALI Epicon 8 speakers, which the salesman said were close to my Triangle speakers DAC and preamp was an MSB Signature DAC IV Plus with Femto 140 clock
In a few words: Lots of power, lots of bass, nice round trebles and warm mediums. I was missing the something from the trebles, my dac (Mytek 192 DSD) being a bit more harsh and dynamic Luckily I brought it and it was warming up, we hooked it in. Trebles dynamic resumed, a bit too much after having heard the MSB. But hey we're speaking of a 40000$ dac here ;o) Lost a bit of detail and clarity in the mediums when going from MSB to Mytek dac. Other than that I believe the speakers were comparable to mine, maybe a bit more bassy, or that was the room.
On the amp side, it felt nicer that my quad XPA-1 setup for classical and soft jazz, but not groundbreaking and as soon as we played loud tracks covering all the bandwith my home setup delivered better clarity in the mediums and separation across the bandwith.
In conclusion I'm not trading my 4 XPA-1s for 2 AW400 ;o)
