Do you think there is really a huge difference between XPA 1 g2 and 1L? Huge difference? No. Twice power equals 3db. So no, not huge. But I'll take the headroom any day. In fact during the last whse sale when Emotiva had such incredible prices on the 1L, and I was in the market with money in hand to upgrade my 100s, I still waited for a good deal on a used set of XPA-1s. I like headroom. SQ wise between the 1 and 1L? None to speak of in my opinion. Another thing to consider, 1Ls run warm. I'd say very warm. The XPA-1, both generations, are known to be very cool amps. The heat is in class a mode. In class ab the heat should be the same. Tony

Sorry for butting in, but may I add that the -1Ls are less then half the weight of the XPA-1s. This is a note from an older fellow. 8) Certainly not butting in. And of course you are correct. Weight is something to consider. But you have XPR-1's so maybe not a big consideration for an "older fellow"?

In ab mode the XPA-1 is cool, the 1L... not so much. Why is this so? Bigger heat sinks maybe? I personally do not care why. With tubes as my main amplification, and solid state picking up the chore below 350hz, heat is a major consideration for me.

My forum friends, can you really hear the difference between XPA 2 g2 VS XPA 1? I am thinking of buying XPA 1 but if there is only a minimal difference, then I wont spend a lot of money on XPA 1. What do you think?

Hi Rod! Usually I'm all about telling people to buy the most exensive amp they can afford. But I would reccomend you stay with your current XPA-2. I don't think it is worth it with your current setup in terms of the improvements bought. The XPA-2 will do everything you need for good sound

What do you think? I don't think you'll be able to tell the two apart in a blind test. I also really don't see the point of two 600W monoblocks going into a speaker rated at 200W (and I think 88db sens). I also don't think we should be arguing that monoblock just look better (even as a "joke"). As soon as you really start cranking the music up Class A becomes pointless and if you never really push your speakers anyway I predict ZERO difference between the XPA 2 and 1. +1 for XPA2 or XPA 1L
