Those were on my short list, but I ended up with hifiman he-400. On a different note, I've noticed that the stealths make low level listening thoroughly enjoying. I've never experienced such fullness at low listening levels. They are definitely capable of rocking, but unexpectedly they are very intimate speakers.

Regarding the low level listening, do you feel that the Stealth 6s will yield the same experience? Or is this partial to your Stealth 8s?

I had the stealth 6's and kinda wish I would have kept them instead of the 8's. Both are great, but the 6's do everything the 8's can in a smaller package. You will find just a tad bit more output on the 8's, but totally not worth it in my opinion.

redog Are you not getting quite a bit more extension out of the 8" driver? Low level listening is decent with the Stealth 6. There is definitely a threshold to hit with them before they start getting nice and dynamic. Fortunately for me, I never listen at that low of a level. However if I am correct the Stealths were designed for a near field experience. I would imagine that in their properly designed application they would flourish at lower levels.

As a little update, I am very much enjoying the stealths. They are a fantastic bargain setup that will please picky people. The loss of the Pendragons is going away, and I am feeling really great about my decision.
I am very much in love with the in room appearance they have. I hung some really cool Black and white art behind them, and it really tied the room together. Also hanging large pictures on the wall has given the illusion that the plasma grew instead of it being dwarfed on a large blank canvas. Obviously acoustic panels would be a better choice, but I haven't heard any differences with putting the pictures behind them.

Ok with the 8's I'm getting a nice little kick in the chest while listening to Daft Punk. Other than the kick they are the same speaker. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 8's, I just think a pair of 6's and a sub would be the better buy.

I loved their last record, and to be honest I could leave most electronica.

Great write up pop! I was calling them DimLights when they are really LightDims. I, too, reverted to using two of them per monitor. I noticed the light on my Airmotiv 4s is brighter even with two. I can barely see the led on the Stealth 6 with two but I can see the Airmotiv 4 with two okay. Don't care anyway because they sit on the side out of the line of sight. The 'gain' dial on the back of the monitor (speaker) took me a while to figure out but the slot where you insert a screwdriver is where you set the dial. I have the L&R monitors set at '0' and the center channel slightly above. When my center channel Stealth 6 arrived from Amazon, it was missing the manual and the speaker looked like it was used. The sock that covers it was not on properly and there was a slight visible scratch on the bottom but not enough to complain. I was told by Emotiva Sales a couple of months back that the Stealth 6 is not being eliminated from inventory. I'm a bit surprised that it was listed as a closeout at reduced pricing. I think Emotiva had a lot of people return the 6 for the 8. Hence, the open box re-packaging we are seeing. Either that or poor quality control. One of my Airmotiv 4s speakers I ordered off Amazon is defective too. It's not sealed where the a/c plug and switch is and I can hear chuffing. As for the solid thud the Stealth 6 possess, this is true except for the very top of the cabinet. Though, I figured out, this is due to the port right below it. What I've read about the Stealth 8, which I have not heard in comparison to the 6's, is the bass response does not surprise me. The midbass driver size difference is only 1.5 inches. I would think the speaker would reach a bit lower than the 6 if you factor in the cabinet size difference and slight driver size increase. What would be the bigger factor is the amount of bass for a particular room size. I use the bass roll-off on the Stealth 6 at -8 dB. I'd be afraid to try the Stealth 8. The difference in low end extension with the testing that Sound & Vision magazine did is on par with what redog has stated sounds about right. The bigger the room size you have, the bigger the speaker you will need. One thing I've learned about the Stealth 6 is that, overall, it sounds the best really loud. This is not to say it doesn't sound good at all volume levels. I really like this speakers control in the bass response. Very tight and controlled. The built in equalization and active design should really help here over a passive speaker design. Once you go active, it makes you consider not ever wanting to return to a separate passive speaker and amp design.

Great writeups. I still haven't had the chance to listen to a paor of stealths. Has anyone compared the Stealths to Genelecs?

Comprehensive review Pops. The Stealth family I think is one the most exciting products from Emotiva Audio. These, and the DC-1 are it! Just so open, honest, and best of all, reachable for everyone. HIFI never was this easy, or fun. Stealths especially say it all in just two boxes. I don't have room for all the black boxes, but the Stealth 6 keeps me happy.

Good to hear! Just purchased some 6's, I got the cheaper ultimate support stands, I think part of their jam stand series, the 4 adjustable height one with the triangle bases. It was one of the few I saw that actually had a top plate big enough to handle the stealth 6, and the sales guy I talked to at emotiva spoke highly of ultimate support.
These will be used in a 2 channel rig powered by a DIY preamp headphone amp, input and output transformer coupled.

I would agree that the Stealth 6 is a superb monitor. It's very clear, sharp, detailed, crisp. I have auditioned the Airmotiv 4, 5, and 6, and Stealth 6. So far, I like the Airmotiv for Music, and both for movies. The Stealth 6 sounds too "clinical" to my ears. I had to turn the treble down -2dB, and it's still very clear. I prefer the sound of the Airmotiv...it's a little warmer, and not as harsh as the Stealth 6. But again, it all depends on your ears.
For music in an apartment, I think the Airmotiv 5/6s will do wonders for the price. The 4/5s would be perfect for either a desktop or surrounds. Heck if you're on a budget, the Airmotiv 5s is excellent for all around use. The 4s would be a tad too small for an apartment, but great for the desktop or surrounds. If you want surround sound at the cheapest, I would recommend the AirMotiv 5s for the LCR, then the 4s for surrounds. I would have to say that this setup is great for a small apartment.
Highlights: Trebble: Stealth 6 is better in every way, but at times sound too clinical to my ears...maybe I'm not used to hearing all the details. But the Airmotiv is no slouch, and only slightly less clear to me. But I prefer the treble of the Airmotiv.
Mid: I like the Airmotiv. It's not as tightly controlled as the Stealth, but sound warmer to my ears. Low: The Stealth is a bit more defined, a little more punch. The Airmotiv is just slightly behind.
Overall...if I were to rate the difference between the two (1 to 10 scale): Stealth at 9, Airmotiv 8.5.
I would recommend the Airmotiv line any day. The Airmotiv 5/s are my favorites. I don't think you'll go wrong with either. They mate together well. (Next Step...auditioning the Stealth 8...more bass, por favor).
As with any speakers, I always recommend audition one for yourself. Your room and ears are the best judges.
