I just added a DC1 to my system and have three issues. Any comments?
1 Very slight smell like burning metal. normal? 2. My system is iMac to DC1 to mini X amp to speakers. At low volumes the mini X goes on standby . I think this might have already been discussed, but are there solutions? 3. Biggest issue. Running through an optical line, the DC1 works fine, registering 96 rate, but when I use the USB after restarting the computer the rate showing on the DC1 always defaults to 44.1 and I have to go into the midi and adjust. (This didn't happen with my dacmagic.) I read about some similar issues with the XDA-2, but haven't seen comments like this about the DC1. Should I test a new USB line? Software issues on the mac? Maybe I am missing an obvious setting adjustment.

I think it says on, off, auto. Put it to ON. That thing consumes so little current, you won't be put out too much. 3. I couldn't help you here., But I don't think the DC-1 is malfucntioning or that you're doing something wrong.

if you are using iTunes by itself as the jukebox then mostly likely it will not automatically register a higher bit rate/sampling rate unless of course you don't shut the computer down each time you are done using it. However if you want better fidelity to start with I would recommend Audirvana which can be used either by itself or in conjunction with iTunes. I don't shut the computer down, nor do I shut my DC-1 down either between sessions so any settings are saved this way.
Hope this helps and makes sense

It's odd that this doesn't happen with my damagic that I use in another system, but gave also tested on the iMac here. it gets even odder. When I switched settings to no-asrc and restarted my computer, the audio midi retained the 192k setting, instead of defaulting to 44.1k. Then I switched back to asrc enabled and did a restart the audio midi had retained the192k setting for the first time. Who knows? BTW, another on audio midi. When I go in, it lists clock settings as "default" in contrast to the situation with the dacmagic where there is a specific reference to the Cambridge dacmagic internal clock. Is there a chance that the dc1 asrc function isn't working here?

IDK, will need to check my settings to make sure. Will not have time until this evening however.

What music player are you using?

Checked mine again last night, and DC-1 defaults to what ever sample rate you play and with Audirvana it forces the change at the midi. So if I reboot, play a 24/192 album, then the DC-1 plays at the appropriate sample rate while Audirvana forces the change at the Midi. Again iTunes alone will NOT do this. BTW I would encourage you to use USB from your iMac to DC-1 vs the optical, you should get much better sound this way.
Hope this helps

I'm going to do some comparisons between optical and USB, but so far USB does seem to have a better defined sound. I'll check the software out.
