knowing the power of the almighty XPA1's gen2 and the every so sensitivities Penndragron speaker is it fair to say that the XPA's are MASSIVE overkill? I have been reading a lot about the Tekton Pendragons and I have not come across any negative reviews. As a matter of fact these speakers are being compared with some very high end expensive speakers like Wilson Audio. Having XPA's and in the market for speakers I would be afraid of blowing those Dragons out of the window...there goes my $2500.00.
Anyone here an owner of these speakers. I know Andrew loved them. Mismatch...XPA1's and Pendragons?

I am sure if you give Eric Aleander a call at Tekton,he would be happy to tell you if they would be good or not.I have talked with him before and he is very good with his customers, you will not be disappointed.
I have personally listened to the Pendragons with XPA-1Ls.They sounded awesome!!

I had them with a XPA-5, was it overkill? sure, you don't necessarily need all of that power, but I doubt the Pendragons won't play well with the XPA-1

I was using an xpr2 to run my JTR'S (98db efficient) for a couple weeks and sold the amp because I didn't think I needed all the power from the xpr as I also have an mps-2 which is 300 watts a @4ohms... needless to say whether it's the different sonic signature of the amps or all the power or, or, or. .... I regret selling the xpr. Don't make the same mistake as me.... Ivor

In a review with parttimeaudiophile, the designer mentioned he used solid state amps with several hundred watts of power. Though they are tube friendly, I don't think you'll have a problem. Remember a more sensitive speaker will still sound just as loud before giving out that a less sensitive speaker will. Also an XPA-1 and a mini-x will produce more or less the same amountof power at the same level on your pre-amp. That's right, just because the XPA-1 is way more powerful than the mini-x, doesn't mean it's going to sound louder at the same volume knob setting. So your fears of turning the knob to one and frying the speakers because it's a large amp will NOT happen. Anyway, I've heard really good things about the tektons. I will hesitate with the wilson comparison but I have heard good things. Is it as good as any of the other speakers on your list? I have no idea but I have my doubts. Meanwhile Eric at tekton is close to announcing a sucessor to his pendragon which he thinks is even better. So you may want to wait on that .....email him and ask him. He's good at responding. Also...the pendragons also have the seas version which uses seas drivers which I thought was interesting. His blog and facebook page has interesting stuff. Also of news he has a capacitor upgrade that he offers for $500. Interestingly on his facebook page he gives a shout out to emo and posts this pic under what amp are you rocking your Lores at? I think these look nice But having said that....I think your other choices may do better.

Lets just say this: You really cant go wrong with anyone of the amps mentioned in this thread,They are all great amps and you will have way more power for these speakers no matter what you decide on.
So with that said,,GOOD LUCK!!!

Well my friends I went to the Magnolia store in Delaware with a friend of mine who is considering purchasing a Marantz turntable. It's a beautiful piece at $1500.00. It's the TT-15 acrylic. So while he was checking out the Marantz I stumbled into a giant of a speaker in more than one way. It was the B&W 803D...what a beast. I identify it that way not only because of its size but also its sound. Dressed in a cherrywood finish at over 45" it is a speaker that you can admire just for there presence in a room. It was being powered and controlled by everything Rotel. Not that I am a fan of Rotel but none the less it sounded pretty sweet with only 200watts of power. I did think that hearing these speakers in the pass with a more herculi power source that the 803's were not performing at its peak. I got talking to Tim at Magnolia and I got a chance to listen to these hi-end speakers. As soon as the music started I recognized a HUGE difference from my respected 804S speakers that have been with me for about 8 years. No disrespect is meant to the 804S, it is a fine fine speaker in its own right perhaps a stepping-stone to what is to come in a persons search for the Holy Grail of sound. While my time was limited and I was only able to sit and listen for 40 minutes I enjoyed my stay at the Magnolia audio and video store and left there thinking of things to come. I have been doing research on upgrading my 804S speakers and have been given good recommendations form people on the Emotiva forum and also from friends but I still come back to that haunting sound of B&W. My mixed emotions come from not being able to readily be able to demo such speakers as SALK, Funk and Tekton Pendragons. Tekton is suppose to be coming out with a new speaker in the near future which I will wait patiently to read. Hopefully before Santa gets here but if not shortly after the holidays.

What is the wait on the Tekon, lets say in a custom finish other than what they display on their site?
And yes it's difficult to leave the B&W signature sound behind, especially with the newer diamond tweeter.
Thanks

Lots of power always gives you options. I think with the power of the XPA-1 amps, your dynamics, control, and headroom would be ideal. Also with the mono blocks, the superior channel isolation is your ally in a great sound. The only peer above is the XPR-1 with even more of everything. And more is never a bad thing. You'll want to go with an amp that will give always more than you expect, and never wonder what if.

I drive my Pendragons with XPA -1L. Incredible sound quality. I don't think I will change the set-up for a long time to come - just too satisfied.

Just noticed the new Tekton design on the website. The Tekton 1812 and upcoming 2112. Struggling to figure out how to convince the wife that those behemoths would add a certain flair to the living room decor! Line array + 18 or 21 in woofers. Sounds like fun! Emo's tease pic of a new speaker was more attractive at first blush, just sayin.......
