Got a chance at a Rega RP40 turntable. New in box at a really good price, barely more than the RP3. Been seriously thinking about pulling the trigger. Looks a RP3 with rp6 bracing/feet and the external speed changer. It almost seems silly not to pull the trigger.
Many will say just get the rp6, but it seems overkill and the price delta takes it out of my range. My other option is to just get a 2m blue and put it on my existing Pro-Ject Debut Carbon while I save up (for a year or so) for a RP6.
Thoughts? (Calling novisnick)

I can't say I know much about about turntables but your thoughts about waiting and saving to step it up a notch a year or so later mirrors my feelings in regards to upgradeing my speakers. I wanted to step up the diamond series B&W speakers and thought about getting the 804D's. They are a fine speaker and a step up from my 804S but if I wait a bit I can step it up to the 803D. If you can control yourself, take a step back and relax, have a little patience you won't regret waiting. I have experience in this. I have made rash impulse buying decisions in regards to this hobby and have said more than once. If I only had saved a couple of hundred dollars more or even a thousand.
Of course that's me...now that I am older I have the patience. Good luck with your decesion.

I agree with your selection of the Rega TT. I have been researching Turntables for a few weeks now. I have concluded my search with the Rega's RP6. Now I have the task of deciding on color, Red or Black. Also, I one final choice, cartridge. The Rega Exact2, or the Ortofon 2MM black ? May not even make a difference. Exact is a hundred less Oh no, since reading this thread, another choice has developed. I totally missed this RP40 special anniversary edition TT, which has yet another cartridge Elys40 . Too many choices. While going through some vinyl albums last night. I found a group called Cartoone. I do not remember the record, and it looks like it has never been played. Jimmy Page is the guest guitarist on the album. Would love to hear it, but my B&O TT has recently ceased operation. Reason for my search for a new TT

I keep asking myself if I need the rp6. I literally have 20 albums. I really enjoy them, but I don't have an expansive collection and it is not my primary source. My dilemma is get a 2m blue on my debut carbon, and buy a bunch of music. Or get the rp40 and consider myself set. It looks like a nice upgrade to the rp3. I could always add the exact at a later date and have a really fine table, just a notch below the rp6.
If I got the 2m blue now I could save for the rp6 at a later date.
In regards to the 2m black on the rp6, I know a guy who has this and loves it.
