For the last year or so I've been trying to resurrect my old stereo system from back in the late 80's.. I found my old Nakimichi Pa-7 amp and Roger Grodinsky pre-amp I hide in cold storage , a little worse for wear..For whatever its worth I think they can be salvaged. My speakers and the rest of my gear seemed to have vanished. I got a call from an old friend whose's family and mine go back a couple of generations .. . My kid sister is his family Dr. and he and I haven't spoken since I left. He's moving and wanted to know what I wanted him to do with my stuff. ( his word , not mine )..Back in 92 while I was going through a particularly difficult split up I decided to hide everything of value and move to Florida from New Jersey. The answer to all my situations back then Keep moving.. I just got back from New Jersey last night and this is a picture of my Apogee Duetta Signature series speakers against the wall in his basement... Two boxes next to each other, still strapped and with the word Extremely on their side. I sent them back to Apogee prior to leaving and had them upgraded to Signature series and sent to him for safekeeping. They have stood there for 22 years untouched...I wanted to open the boxes and see them but decided if I could wait 22 years , I could wait a couple of more weeks while they are being shipped down to me. As an added bonus he brought out two more boxes I left with him. One was a Meitner CD and the other an AR ETL-1 turntable... Does any of this stuff ( my word , not his ) have any audio value other then sentimental ? What are the chances any of it still works ? Is there's anything I need to do before powering them up ? I feel like a dog chasing a truck. Half the fun was the hunt.. Now what do I do with them?

If I remember right, those Apogees were virtually a dead-short to amplifiers. You'll need a welding machine to drive them! LOL Nevertheless, they should sound GOOD! The other items, I couldn't say, but Audiogon & eBay should have some info.
Happy reunion!

Several years ago I sold my "old pair" of Apogee Duetta's (Mark 2, not Signatures). They too had been sitting mostly untouched for something like 10-15 years. I had to fire them up to make sure they were ok, and they were glorious! I still can't believe how "liquid" they still sounded. I guess you'd have to check and see if all the ribbon connections were still intact, but otherwise unless there were some aluminum eating bacteria in your storage, they should be fine. I was running them on a very serious 200+ watts/side Belles amp, and they were great. I'm sure an XPA-2 will do it great justice Oh, my pair went for something in the above $1000 range, I think more like $1300, a bit lower than they could be but he was going to have mongo shipping costs, so I "split the difference". Your Signatures should be worth more.

BTW, the reason I stopped using the Apogee's were that we moved to a house from my former townhouse. The townhouse had "normal" sized rooms and ceiling heights. The new house had a cathedral ceiling living room which totally ate the sound of the Apogees no matter what side of the room I put them, it made everything sound small (if all you listened to were string quartets I guess that would be ok ). I moved them into the family room - TV/theater room - and with only a 9-foot ceiling they sounded ok (I actually don't remember), but because of their size and strong magnets, they were not a good match for that era's TV's (tubes). I'm sure you know that placement can sometimes be tricky, especially with these dipoles, but if your room can handle them they will be glorious!

Thanks guys. I knew they didn't have a high monetary value but am glad to hear that they should of survived . That was my main concern . SS it is . I'll probably try them out with a Sherbourn PA-7 amp . Around 500 watts in two channel . That should get them going. Then make a decision on powering them if all goes well. I have a spare bedroom 14 x 21 with a 9 ft trey ceiling. I can conceivable place them anywhere in the room . I did a fast search on the cd . Looks like the designer was Ed Meitner and his company is EMM Labs . I don't have a clue.. The paperwork on the speaker boxes said the color is taupe . I thought they were gray. Unless I have another pair floating around somewhere. Pretty foggy days back then. Even tho I was drug and alcohol free since 85 it took me 5 years to figure out I had my head up my butt. And another 5 years to pull it out. It wasn't until mid 90 's that I got my two brain cells fired up . Ok. I kid. Maybe This thing called life has been a great trip. I think I'll stick around for a while longer ..

Today's kids don't give ...much...of a rat's tail about our old audio gear. My oldest son does, but he only want's to "collect it", not use it! Lol...
Today's generation; give some cheap earbuds...and "Tell me they're made by Dr. Dre....and I'm good"
Serious.............. :-(

Bub, when you finally get around to unboxing your apogee's, post some pics and your impressions. Very cool having "brand new" 20 year old speakers.

The Nak is still in pretty high demand. You mentioned the condition so that would effect price but should be an easy sell.

Most but not all; my 16-year-old daughter loves her Emotiva gear (and so do her friends). What phase tech does your daughter have? None yet. She's rocking a set of Airmotiv 4's as her speakers. She's thought about a nice set of Phase Techs, but feels that the Airmotiv's fit the bill for her at the moment. It's her sound so I let her decide where to go with it. She ran her set up for her 16th B-day party and the guys were all over it asking about it.
