The local gent who bought my Martin Logan electrostatic speakers emailed me back. He says that he and his wife REALLY like the sound of the speakers, but he thinks that his current HK receiver with Proton amp aren't doing them justice. He's asked for recommendations. He was asking for an integrated, but I've suggested that he might like the XSP-1 with XPA-1L combo. I have no idea of his price range, but once he tells me that, I think that we can come up with some good suggestions.
To the best of my knowledge, the MLs aren't particularly hard to drive, nor are they particularly insensitive. My understanding is that the speakers are being used in a smaller room, and that high volumes aren't important.
Is there any reason to suggest to him anything other than what I have? If he's absolutely determined to go integrated, I'm torn between the Fusion receiver from Emotiva and the Rogue Audio Sphinx.
Have youse guys any other suggestions?
Thanks - Boom

In general, I think they are a bit hard to drive, although newer models are easier.
Which model are the MLs? Are they a version without an internal amp to drive the sub? If so, recommend substantial power.

Whenever I have heard electrostatics that sound anywhere near good they have been driven by amps with grunt. Tuck your XPA-1L's under your arm, wonder over to their place and slot them between the HK and the ML's. After about 60 seconds they will forget all about integrated.
Cheers Gary

They're Arius i models, if I remember correctly. The woofers are passively driven, not actively.

I had Aeon i and my Macintosh MA 6450, 100 wpc, integrated amp lacked the umph they needed. They didnt sound good at all. Best results I had with them was my Rotel RB 1080 @ 200 wpc
