I tried connecting my Panasonic TV (circa 2009) via the audio optical out to the DC-1 optical input but was unable to get any sound--the optical port is fine on the DC-1 as it works fine with my computer. This same optical output on the TV connected to my XMC-1 works fine. Does TV audio require a processor/receiver to work or is there an issue with feeding such a signal through the DC-1?
My XMC-1 is currently being used in a dedicated HT/music room while I am looking to set up a 2nd TV hooked to different speakers in a different room. I happen to have an extra DC-1, so I am trying to figure out if I need to come up with a different solution to get sound fed through my speakers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've used mine that way.
Is there a menu option on your tv to switch to optical out?

I thinj you have to enable the optical out on the tv and set it to 2 channel pcm

There is no menu option for switching to optical out. I'm guessing my TV is a bit temperamental.

Sadly, there is no option for PCM. At this point, I think I am going to completely shift gears and forgo the luxury of a second HT setup.

Is PCM a necessity? Your TV's analog out should work

I think he's trying to bypass the tv's perhaps cheap dac, and use the dc-1 instead.

i just added a sony bravia to my DC-1 set up and it works beautifully 98% of the time but when i go to watch a movie preview from an ap on the TV there is no sound. i can tell the type of signal changes thats going to the DC-1 because there is a small noise. if i change the audio out back to the TV speakers, i hear the sound. i was surfin the forum just to see if anyone else is having similar trouble. my guess is, we are! hopefully there is a simple solution

Some of the newer cable boxes have optical out ports. I connect direct from my cable box to xda-2 to a set of xpa-100's. When I took the signal from the optical out on my tv (2008 Toshiba lcd, which had to be set to pcm) I had gain issues. Cable box was a better signal path.

im going to agree with dannyd, i went through and changed all my audio outputs from my sources to disable dolby digital and it has fixed nearly every problem where i have gone without sound. there is still one thing i cannot disable it (TV). but i can live with that. if you can change the audio output of all of your sources to PCM it shouldnt be an issue..
