I like a lot of todays music and voted for that, mostly because the musicianship is so much better now. But I also like music from every decade - I have no real favorite in the end. But I'm not surprised that so many are "stuck" in the old days. Not a criticism I just think people look fondly back at the "Wonder Bread Years" growing up...

Not at all surprising that the 70's is by far the most popular. Although I would have thought the 60's might have a few more supporters. In fact, thinking about it, the split into decades is wrong, maybe it should be '56 to '65 , '66 to '75, '76 to '85 etc. Then I'd vote for the '66 to '75 because a lot of the great music was late 60's early 70's. CCR's first album was 1968, Sgt Peppers 1967, DSOM 1973, Deep Purple's first album 1968. the Heep's 1st 1970, Paranoid 1970, Eagles 1972, Chicago 1 1969, Hendrix anything between 1967 and 1970, BS&T 1968 and of course Woodstock 1969.
Sorry gotta go, I have this strange compulsion to play some late 60's vinyl.
Cheers Gary

I really like the 90's for all the new styles and artists, alternative rock, folk rock, grunge, soft rock.
I think that every bodies favorite decade would represente their own 20's years old decade because music is intimately link with our own souvenirs, am I right?

After thinking about it some more I've changed my vote to the 60's. The late 60's had some irresistible music.
Cheers Gary

Sometimes it just doesn't line up on an even boundary. I would say '65-'75 was the most prolific 10 years of RR! I couldn't agree with you more my friend!!! Edit; but then again,,,,,,,,I have a big soft spot for Big Band

I voted 60's but the period of 64-73 were the heyday of rock IMO. Rock finally got over the 'Teen Angle' pop culture crap songs and started getting serious - and psychedelic. Groups like The Rolling Stones - Moody Blues - The Byrds - Cream - Vanilla Fudge (their remake of MoTown's 'Keep Me Hanging On' was their finest IMO) - Jefferson Airplane & Gracie Slick (Surrealistic Pillow) - etc etc were awesome. Lots of great music and bands were born from the mid 60's mid 70's. And its the decade I grew up in. There is fierce debate amongst friends and family about that though (the growing up part).

All, a lot of guitar related comments here.
Sorry, but the jazz guitarists recording from the late '40s through the early '60's eat the lunch of all rock guitarists put together.
Listen to Tal Farlow, Joe Pass, Jimmy Raney, etc etc for proof.
And this coming from a guy that actually played '60s music in the '60's!

Got to 60s in 1st place. 2nd 70s, 3rd 80s. Yeah I know you wanted a fav only, but there is just too much good stuff to limit in just one decade.

That is a bit of a tough question and really hard to choose. Obviously the late 60's and early 70's were amazing as there was so much experimentation going on and music was really alive across a multitude of genres. It's also just as easy to pick the decade from whenever one really started to get into music, and for me that was around 84-86 which when I first got hooked on Floyd, Sabbath, early Scorpions and whatever else was going on at that time. Not to mention the rise of the big three in Thrash (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax) and soon to follow was Megadeth so it was a great decade for metalheads Grunge quickly became popular in the late 80's early 90's and changed the landscape again. Around the same time Industrial was being born so 85-95 could easily be a pick for me. Especially as that's when I first got hooked on Stonerrock/Desert Rock with Monster Magnet's Superjudge in 93. It was easily the coolest music I'd ever heard and completely blew my mind. Once again I'd have no problems picking the 90's as my favourite decade based on that genre alone. It was a resurgence of 70's rock and psychedelia with a new flavour and quite literally changed my life. In keeping with this poll though, I chose the 2000's. I was a forum administrator at Stonerrockchick.com, and did some album reviews for that site as well as Stonerrock.com (can't beat getting free albums in the mail from bands from all over the world). The scene was very much alive and in it's hayday. I actually ended up dating the owner of Stonerrockchick.com and live with her to this day haha. It really was a music scene akin to the 70's as tons of amazing bands were being released and impossible to listen to everything coming out. So in a nutshell, that has to be the best decade of music for myself.

Me thinks there maybe a correlation between decade chosen and when you were a teenager. For myself, my favourite decade for music all depends on the genre I want to listen to. I love blues from pretty much any decade, prefer my country and rock'n'roll from the 50's, love the rock from the 60's 70's, enjoy the punk from the late 70's early 80's, and absolutely love the metal (all types) and alternative from the 90's... some really good prog' has been made in the 00's... if I was stuck on a desert island with one decade to choose it'll prob' be the music from teen years the 90's (today's choice anyway ).

The decade changes with my mood. I have the decades split up as playlists, and enjoy them all.
