I’m in the process of building an 8020 rack for the front of our HT room after living several years with my “temporary” rack on the side of the room. The rack on the side of the room resulted in a cabling nightmare which is the primary reason for the move. In preparation for the new rack and the new equipment going into it I decided to have a dedicated line put in place.
An electrician came yesterday and installed two 20 amp circuits from the panel in the front of the garage to the den on the complete other side of the house. It took him eight hours but I’m sure the results of the dedicated lines will be well worth it. I now have a four gang box with four hospital grade duplex outlets installed; two for each circuit directly behind where the new rack will be.
I’m going to replace my UPA-5 with five XPA-1Ls. The rack is three sections wide. The LF and LS amps will go on the left side of the rack. The center channel amp will go in the center section of the rack under my XMC-1 and the RF and RS amps will go on the right side of the rack. The layout as described (with digital sources upper left, analog sources upper right) should result in cable runs with none or minimal cables crossing each other.
I plan on having the LF and LS amp on one circuit; the RF and RS amp on the second circuit. The fifth (center) amp will share one of the circuits. The amps will plug directly into the outlets or perhaps through CMX-2s. The analog and digital sources will each plug into separate power filters (PS Audio Duets).
My UMC-1 and UPA-5 with be on their way back to Emotiva in the next few days for trade in on the first two XPA-1XLs. The remaining three XPA-1Ls will be ordered a week or two later. Can’t wait.
