Borrow a good BlueRAy player play a CD on it. I bet it sounds better than your computer system unless you are downloading Hi DEF files. There are several under $200 DACs that would bring your computer audio to life. I am not downloadyn, I buy the cd's and import them into iTunes in Losless format

Wait, your sc81 has an internal dac that may be just great.
And you're outputting digital from the mini.
My bad.

I also see that the sc81 is airplay capable.
Have you tried streaming Tidal at 16/44 to it from an iphone, ipad, computer or android?
CD quality for 25 million tunes for $20 per month.

I have tried streaming, but to be honest I am not a big fan. Something gets lost in the air, I have compared same recording, on the mac vs streaming, even from good sources and there is a world of a difference. For background music, it might be ok, but to the real pleasure of enjoying i rather have the CD.

Ok, but remember Tidal is the only service streaming at 16/44.
Best,

+1 for the audiobill recommendation on DACs. They ARE system-dependent, and what sounds amazing in one system may not in the next.

well, life is interesting, I just came across a pair of Theos at a very low price I could not resist and pulled the trigger. Here are the specs, I think they definitely call for the XPA1s, what do you think
Low Frequency Transducer 8" (20.3cm) cast basket, high excursion, aluminum cone with extended throw drive assembly, non-resonance asymmetrical chamber format, down-firing bass reflex port.
Sensitivity 90 dB/2.83 volts/meter
Impedance 4 Ohms, 0.8 at 20kHz. Compatible with 4, 6, or 8 Ohm rated amplifiers.
Recommended Amplifier Power 20‒400 watts per channel

May be a bit overkill, with an 8" woofer and 90db sensitivity.
I'd go with an XPA-2 for those.
