These Movies are my Top Five movie picks for 2014 because they were released on DVD in 2014. Notice no Sci Fi or Action films made my top five this year. Sorry but none of them pushed the right buttons for me this year including Gravity. Don't get me wrong, I love Sci Fi and Action films. Guardians of the Galaxy released December 9, 2014 came close but this is my Top Five.
Dallas Buyers Club, released on DVD February 4, 2014
Nebraska, released on DVD February 25, 2014
The Book Thief, released on DVD March 11, 2014
Mud, released on DVD May 13, 2014
The Grand Budapest Hotel, released on DVD June 17, 2014

We found Nebraska on Amazon Prime. Never would have watched or rented it otherwise. Fantastic movie. Loved it!!! Fargo mentality...

My wife and I rented Mud while we were on vacation last year and loved it. Unique roll for Mathew McConaughey.

I saw Dallas Buyers club and I thought it was the best movie I've seen for the last 5 years.
I also saw the grand Budapest but didn't appreciate it, though I saw a french translation which could be the reason why...
Thanks for this list, I will put the others on my to do list...

Good picks.
I would add Whiplash and Boyhood to that list.

Good picks. I would add Whiplash and Boyhood to that list. Birdman Fury Imitation Game Interstellar Nightcrawler Here is the thing. None of these movies are out on DVD yet and I have not seen them yet. I have heard great things about all these and looking forward to seeing them. I will buy "Boyhood" on DVD today. I don't have a movie service like Netflix or the premium movie channels. I just look at what is coming out on DVD and buy what looks good for that Tuesday. The movies that are not to be missed I find out about by reading online. Somtimes good movies just pop up on the store shelf with no advertisement or talk about them. Recently I went looking for the movie "November Man". I could not find it at any store and finally went to target and ask the manager about it. He went into the back, back of the store and came back with a DVD of "November Man". I still have not seen it on any of the store shelf's I go too. It is a good movie. November Man, released on DVD November 25, 2014

4/5 on that list for me. I've yet to watch Mud. Mud was my favorite. I have lived like Mud lives on that river. Actually lived on sides of rivers eking out food from the river and living in the bushes but it is the story of those two young boys that make this movie. This movie comes closer to a good Huckleberry Finn adventure than any film I have ever seen. Matthew McConaughey is whacking them out of the ballpark one after another. It is like he is a new person in his latest movies. "Killer Joe" from 2011 is hard to watch at times and is not for most folks but I enjoy the movies that put the dirty reality of life front and center and Matthew McConaughey is riveting to watch in this. No kids allowed with this one ! Killer Joe. 2011

4/5 on that list for me. I've yet to watch Mud. Me too but it's Nebraska we haven't seen. Loved the 4 we saw. Especially liked The Grand Budapest Hotel for it's "on the edge" blend of comedy, seriousness and bizarreness.

June Squibb who plays the Mother steals this movie with her foul mouth and just get real talk ! Wish I could find a clip of Willem Dafoe throwing Jeff Goldblum's cat out the window ! ROFL just thinking about it !

I thought I would find "The Equalizer" when I went Target to get "Boyhood" today. Just looking now I think "The Equalizer" is one of those exclusive to Best Buy DVD's. It is getting complicated finding movies on DVD these days. I ordered about thirty off Amazon recently and it has taken all of two months to get them all. They were delivered by every service known to man and if your not at the door in two seconds you get a note "be back later". The US postal service left a note that I had to go to the post office to pick it up for one. I have a mailbox that also includes large keyed box's if needed. But it's just one thing after another to get them mailed here and I must have the physical media.
