Well if I had it all to over again, I would go with all the XPR amps, but I have a XPR-5, a XPA-5, and a XPA-3. the difference in quality is immense, I can show you pictures of what I mean, you will have way more headroom with a XPR-5 and then get 2 monoblocks for your two main fronts. that's if you are doing 7 channels, I am doing 12 channels with room for another in the future.

Also I had 3 subwoofers at one time, I tried a dual setup and was not thrilled with it, at the time, but with new technology you can do a dual sub setup with a lot more ease, without cancelling out the subs, so I may get another 2 sub setup also. so I will have a 12.2 setup.

look at my other posts, I showed most of the stuff, I still will update more pics just do a search on my other posts.. Just remember the XPA;s come shipped UPS, the XPR's come special freight, UPS will not travel with that much weight per shipment, I will post more pics, of the 3 amps next to each other. Now I am not saying get a XPR, as it will not only cost you more per amp, but also you will need a electrician to come in, just so you can power the beast up. so factor in that cost as well. Currently I can run both XPA's off the same surge strip, and both run cool to the touch, only a few degrees above room temp. the XPR I have yet to hook it up, basically because I am waiting on a new pre/pro the Marantz AV7702 so I can use the 13 XLR outputs. much cleaner sound. with the Marantz you can hook it up both ways the XLR's or the 19 RCA's, and I will try it both ways, and take a reading with the computer as to which is producing the cleaner sound, I suspect the XLR will shine, but we will see. To me, I justified the cost difference for clean sound, I like to crank it to around 104-106db and not hear static (AT ALL) between soundtracks. All my speakers produce better than 96db (1w-1m) most hit some hit 99db. so the sound at 104-106 is VERY easy to achieve, and gives me A LOT OF HEADROOM. Also FREE HD radio with the AV7702 is nice, for background, while I'm doing things like paying bills, cleaning, taking care of dogs, etc.. and I come back and check the system for a temp, and my hand on it (all) is barely warm, the only piece with any temp to speak of is the AVR, but that's no longer as much a issue as its not a AVR no amps to muddy the sound, So its all about clean with me, music as well at least a 11.2 channel home theater. I will post some pics, give me a day or 2, as the pre/pro is here on the 26th, that's when i'll line up the amps. I can say without a doubt the XPR is shipped better and in a box that will swallow both XPA boxes, the XPA-5 and the XPA-3. almost funny. but on the bright side for you fellows, I may just sell the XPA with transferable warranty, and its only a month old, i'll know soon.

That circuit is only needed to drive test systems and not home speakers. I run a set of XPRs on a single 15 amp circuit and never come close to the limit on that circuit. This is not an opinion but fact. I've been running them for over a year and have never tripped the circuit. Peace, Nick

Bcr, You are mistaken.
Most XPA's are shipped UPS.
The XPA-7 is shipped via freight.
This XPA-7 is a 96 POUND BEAST unpackaged / 111 pounds boxed not counting the shipping base.
Double Boxed and strapped to a formed base that's much durable than a wooden skid.
The formed base which the Emotiva XPA-7 is strapped to is stronger and has no give.
This shipping method provides a secure transit and safe delivery.
Emotive's XPA-7 Size: unboxed: 17” wide x 9.875” (5RU) high x 19” deep boxed: 24 " wide x 16.5" high x 25.5" deep Palletized: 40.5" wide x 21.5" high x 25.5" deep Weight: 96 lbs (111 lbs boxed).
If you're looking for a recomarkable 7-channel Emotiva amp you'll be pleased with the XPA-7. Not to mention she runs cool, plenty of headroom and does so without breaking a sweat.
If not satisfied send it back within 30 days. Cheers

I have a ammeter, and will break it out, to see how close I am coming to the circuit. I will do that the SAME EXACT day I hook it up, actually it will be sitting there waiting just when I turn it on. As well a wattage meter, and other meters. but others are for stuff not related to electric.

Also I have some 88db speakers, and I can see what it takes to power those as well, as a lot of people have them as standard speakers. That will take me more time, I might not get to that the first day.

Peace, Nick I am to old, and need no stress, so I am not here to debate, but you are talking about a single amp stage, compared to a 5 amp stage capable of 1.1kilowatts of driven, of course I will never drive it.

Same here, I am not here to debate, I never said what my box(es) exactly the way they were packed, the XPR was also double boxed, strapped to a skid, as well around a 1 1/2" bottom. but I'm done with the thread, now I remember why I quit coming to these forums to begin with, he asked for opinions, I gave mine, that's it. I'll be happy without a forum, and Emotiva, just be happy, I am a good REPEAT customer, with plenty to buy in the future...
Peace. from a middle aged man, not needing stress. I take pills for that.

bcr, I must apologize for any unnecessary stress... I simply was providing accurate shipping details for a possible future XPA-7 owner. We're here for support, information and fun at times.

No problems, I did take some extra pills, (they help) and for those that do not know, I am disabled, I fell off a 5 story building in 2001, so I try to live with as little stress as possible. I to was giving what I know to be true on the shipping, the XPA's that I got are nowhere near as well packed as the XPR. and that is coming from 3 different amps. IMO, the XPR needs the extra handling.
And for the fellow saying he is running not on a dedicated line, would he not be voiding the warranty, as I plan on doing things the way the book says.
BTW, the AV-7702 came today, I have only 1 bad pic,. I had the wrong lens on, it was the 105mm Macro lens (sharp) but no zoom, so you get what you get, as well there is only about room for 1/64" of an inch for anything not blurry, I had to go manual. I'll upload pic in a sec. I will do better pics later.
I have all XLR gold plated cables coming, also I got the RCA gold plated caps for RCA plugs not used, (supposed to lower noise, if you believe that) Also I got HDMI plugs, for unused plugs, etc..

Nope, not voiding anything. Manufacturer suggested that a 15 amp would be fine. They even sell the CMX-2 and CMX-6 that will accept the plug on the XPR series amps.
8) we're safe!

I had considered the CMX for my HT but it's my understanding the Emotiva amps are "Self Protected" and better to directly connect to AC outlets. What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts?i The XPR series amps will not plug directly into a standard 15 amp circuit but will plug into the impressively built CMX-2/6 and then into a 15 amp circuit. I use a single CMX-2 for both of my XPR-1s. My amp meter shows a use of about 256 watts on average driving my Paradigm Studio 100s.. I find nothing detrimental about using a CMX-2 in my system. Pictures of this unit do not do it justice!! Peace

You can always chop off the 20A plug and replace it with a 15A plug from Home Depot instead.
I run a pair of XPR-1s on a 15A circuit with no issues whatsoever.
