Thanks for your input Gary, you make a good point! I say go mid way with a set of the Airmotiv 5s Chad

Sure Scott will let you know, need some time to break them in first. I think the AM5s will be enough for your intended application.

I just posted my thoughts in the Stealth 6 Review...check it out. To put it simply...you can't go wrong with either one.

Entropy, Thanks for posting that review! It's very helpful to me in my thought process of what to do. Currently, I'm leaning towards either the Airmotiv 5 or 6. The 6 seems like the more well rounded speaker of the two with many possibilities for use (office, home theater, etc.)

Someone just posted a link to Sound&Vision's review of the Stealth 8/6; it's posted in POP's Stealth 6 review thread . The reviewer said that it's not the best for classical. I would agree. I played various classical (and organ music) on the Stealth 6. It's doesn't have the impact/scale of a true full range speaker.
Yes, the Airmotiv 6 is a very good speaker, especially for the LCR. It would work anywhere. But for surrounds, I wouldn't use them. I don't believe there's that much information from the surrounds. The 4/5s would be superb. I have the 4 now as surrounds. In fact, I temporarily tested this on a specific scene of Fast & Furious 6. The LT Front is the Stealth 6, and the LT Rear is the Airmotiv 4s. I swapped these two; then set the rear to "Large" in the preamp. Guess what? In that specific scene (2nd track, where the chopper is flying from the LT rear toward the LT front, then center)...the sound impact emanating from the rear didn't change, or that perceptible (even though it's the Stealth 6, rather than the Airmotiv 4s). Of course, I lost the impact on the LT Front...as expected.
If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the 5s for the rear because it has a little better lows...that's about it. Good luck in your quest...and of course, have fun.

That mirrors my experience in using the little XRM 4.1s as surrounds. These are tiny speakers that peter out below 100 or so and they are super as surround speakers. The surround info, even on immersive surround music, does not require a lot of bass to do what it needs to do.

I'm thinking about going with a pair of Airmotiv 6S's. I'm going to really appreciate the extra low end compared to the 4 and 5, and I have the real estate on my desk for them in the office.
Any final thoughts before I pull the trigger?

Just get the Airmotiv 6s or do the above. Keep us posted on what you decide to get.

Well everyone, I purchased a pair of Airmotiv 6S speakers from Redog! I'll post my impressions once I get them properly set up, but from my initial "make sure they work" quick listen, I think my ears are in for a treat!

Enjoy! I'm going to miss them. Once you go with a folded motion tweeter, it's hard to go back.

Here is my current setup at my office. I'll need to figure out some way of elevating the speakers to get the tweeters up to ear level. Sounds good so far!

Get a pair of Auralex supports and you can alter the wedges to have them pointed up towards you. Plus you'll get isolation from the desk.

Chuckie, thanks for the ideas! I'll need to play around with some make shift stands for now until I determine if I like them angled up at me or actually physically elevated up to ear level. Is one way better than another for any reason?
Garbulky, indeed I do want to add a DAC to the system! The problem is that I've used all my "audio fund" cash for the speaker purchase, so I don't have much of anything left over with which to get a good DAC. I was eventually hoping to add an XDA-2 or DC-1 to the system, but it would be a long time before I could afford one. Having the Analog inputs of the DC-1 would be a bonus, but it's much more expensive than the XDA. Your suggestion of the UCA202 might be the perfect thing for me in the meantime, thank you for that idea! If I did have the 202, then I could buy the XDA-2 instead of the DC-1 (even though I know the DC-1 is better, it just costs so much more!), and I would still have a decent DAC with analog inputs if I needed it for something. If the DC-1 is a 10/10 DAC, where does the 202 fall? 3/10?

Also, is the Behringer UCA 222 worth the extra dollar or so?
I'm also a bit bummed that it only supports up to 16/48 instead of 24/192. But for $30 what can you expect!

Ok, I will preface this by saying there are plenty of people that like the xda-2, that my opinion is subjective, and my opinion is just one person. Having said that ....if you have the ability get the DC-1 or not at all. It's just BETTER. The UCA 202 and 222 are identical. The difference is the type of software bundled with it (recording stuff, some shareware trial software etc). The UCA 202 is very similar to an XDA-1 in quality though not 100% at that level, very close. It also has a headphone amp!
