Outlaw introduces new amp. I received the "backstory" in an email direct from Outlaw. Made me wonder if our friends at Jade Design have been busy!!!! Anyone know? THE BACK STORY Ever since we introduced the Model 975, we have received dozens of requests for an accompanying 5-channel amplifier that would match the performance and value of this award-winning processor. Our customers have rightly pointed out that our only current 5-channel amplifier, the Model 7500, is nearly three times the price of the Model 975, making combos a somewhat pricey proposition. With that in mind, developing a new 5-channel amplifier became a high priority for the Outlaws. However, the task was not as simple as it might sound. Unlike the chips that power a processor, the pricing for amplifier components such as metal and magnetics have risen dramatically in the last four years. That made it difficult to build a new design in the US that would take no "shortcuts" in performance at the target price. Thus, we began a search for an off-shore manufacturing venue that could produce a product that met our high standards. The results of this work led us to a US-based audio design team who has long-standing relationships with outstanding off-shore manufacturing facilities. In conjunction with the Outlaws, this enabled us to design and manufacture our first multi-channel amplifier built outside of the US, the new Model 5000. INTRODUCING THE MODEL 5000 linkSounds an awful lot like a UPA-5 to me.

It's just too bad they didn't take 10 minutes to work on the aesthetics They are like the NAD of the 90's haha.

Yeah, got that too, I am on their distribution list. Got really close to buy their 975 pre/pro + 7075 amp, although I need only 5 channels. I ended up with a Fusion 8100 and I have no regrets, more compact, similar power and I would bet the two systems sound very similar. Hard to go wrong with either brand.
Would not be surprised if this new amp had some commonality with the old Emo 5-ch amp. It depends how much of the design has been done by Outlaw or delegated to the overseas ODM.
One thing I have always admired of Outlaw is their ability to design and manufacture in the US such great value products. I work in the electronics industry and I know how hard that is.
I suppose they have started to feel the price pressure and decided to take the plunge with this new amp...
As consumers and audio enthusiasts we are very lucky to have companies like Emotiva and a few others.

I did not find a SNR spec on the product website or in the online manual.
On the back of the amplifier, it is written:
"Designed in the USA by Outlaw Audio and manufactured in the PRC" (apparently not ATI)
PRC: People's Republic of China

Historically, ATI has made the Outlaw amplifiers... Not sure on this one.

...Would not be surprised if this new amp had some commonality with the old Emo 5-ch amp... Actually, I'd be very surprised if there was ANY commonality with ANY Emotiva product or ANYTHING made by Jade. Think about it: Why would Outlaw tip their product plans to a factory owned or at least represented by their main competitor? Why would Outlaw want to support a competitor's factory? Looking through the glass in the other direction, why would a factory said to be associated in some ownership or representative capacity want to make a product for their competition. None of those things would make sense. I would bet that any speculation of commonality or sourcing from Emo's sources is just not true. ...As consumers and audio enthusiasts we are very lucky to have companies like Emotiva and a few others... By "lucky" are you referring to compamnies that manufacture their products in the USA? Last time I looked, Outlaw has been selling productys made in the USA for over 15 years and Emotiva currently has one product in the US, thought they say they will be building more. Outlaw has six electronics products made in the US. Doesn't that count? The true test will be when somone gets their hands on the nerw Outlaw amp and reports on it, OR when we see some unbiased professional reviews. That will tell if it good or bad, a good value or not. At least form a specs and price standpoint it does seem to be a worthy competitor in the market place filling a hole in their product line and offering a unit that has no current direct option for us to buy from Emotiva. What's wrong with a little spirited competition that will hopeuflly spur BOTH companies to build better products at better prices. THAT would be nice.

BTW when the UPA-5 first came out back in 2009 it was $549. So $599 for the 5000 is not bad for 2015.

Should have elaborated, sorry: I meant to say we are lucky that we have companies like Emotiva, Outlaw and a few others, who operates with low overhead and a focus on what really counts, which make them able to offer great value products, regardless of where they actually build them. For example, I recently got a Fusion 8100. For the price, I think everybody who has one would agree that it sounds and drive speakers better than any other integrated amp at the same price point from any other manufacturer out there.

Just checked out this Amp it is the real deal the only thing I could not find was what the power supply was? 1.200V? doesn't say but the amp does pull 1500 to 1.800 watts at full power. If you mean the transformer (a part of the power supply) that pic doesn't look like a 1.2KkVA part. Looks like a 600kVA one to me but I'll try and find out.

An email to Outlaw will clear any doubt. They are as open as Emotiva when it comes to disclosing this stuff.
And by the way, it is kVA. You do not want 600V or 1,2kV in a solid state amp :-)

Class G amps have an adaptive power supply. It scales voltage up and down depending on the input signal level. Sort of like going into high gear when needed. On paper it should more efficient than the traditional Class A/B.

The photos here bit.ly/17NwsOH definately show it is on the one hand more like the UPA-5 in terms of design and construction, while on the other hand it is clearly different from either and therefore not related in design or manufacture to the Jade-built products as some here have speculated. I wonder if there will be new products from Emotiva to replace the UPA models so that they have something comperably priced.
