I bought this on here and am overall very happy with it. I have a few questions though. I read through the manual and could not find what I was looking for. First is there a way to change the volume from -numbers to 0 - 100? Yea I'm old and old school. Also, will this pre cut the volume level somehow? Going from a 2 channel Onkyo to this and my vinyl and some other sources don't seem quite as loud. Also, I hooked up my LD player, that's laser disk for you that don't know, to the s video expecting to have a picture on my tv and only got sound. Does this unit not send the signal to the HDMI out? If it's supposed to what am I doing wrong? I really like this piece of equipment just want to try and figure out what I'm doing wrong. Yes I'm new to this particular brand and to the whole HT thing. Now if I could just find an amp in my budget for the rear speakers. Just in case anyone cares about my crappy picture of my pride and joys.....

Hope you enjoy the MMC-1. I almost bought it for myself. Not sure how to pass A/V from a laser disc. I believe it has an optical toslink output so that would probably be the best way to route sound. I would have thought the S-video would pass the image though. Pretty sure that unit only offers HDMI pass through. Basically from a cable box to the MMC input and then output to the tv....same situation for the dvd HDMI.
As far as the volume, it works from the negative numbers up to zero which should be reference level (although you probably never reach it). Routing phono etc, through the rca outs are probably not going to give you the same levels as the digital output of a dvd per say via toslink, coax or HDMI.

I would have to dig up the manual, but in the settings there is a way to level match sources on the MMC-1.

Nice speakers ;)Thanks! I love them! emotiva.com/resources/manuals/retired/mmc1_manual.pdfPage 12: • Six audio/video inputs, each with audio, S-video and composite video • Broadcast quality video up-conversion circuitry for all composite and S-video inputs.Doesn't that mean it sends the s-video to the HDMI? These terms are new to me too.

Very nice speakers. The Polk SDA line are the best sounding line they made IMHO.

Video Up Conversion The Emotiva MMC-1 has advanced video DSP circuitry and coding which allows the ultimate flexibility in video signal processing. With these attributes, the MMC-1 can easily allow the following: a) Up conversion from Composite Video inputs to S-Video and Component Video outputs. b) Up conversion from S-Video inputs to Component Video outputs. c) Down conversion from S-Video inputs to the MON2 video output jack.
It looks like upconverting anything to HDMI is NOT an option.

Nice speakers ;) Exactly...What are your speakers? By the way I am old school also and old. Had a PIONEER Laser Disc years ago. Found it difficult to find discs that I enjoy.

Nice Villock. I have thought about trying to find some of those but have instead started down the rabbit hole to modification. 198's are in and I have dynamatt and larry's rings ready to be installed. Hope to upgrade the crossovers in the next year.

Larry's rings really made a dramatic improvement with mine and of course the crossovers. I want a full report after each mod

Ok back to the MMC and help with it..... I hooked up the LD and the optical out to the MMC and the video played but no sound. I could plug the RCA into the MMC and it would play fine. I'd really like to find a way to utilize the surround capabilities of my LD with this unit. Thoughts?

I would think that there is a setup menu in the LD player that you need to tell the player that you want the audio to come out of the optical out. Or maybe the input you are using in the MMC is set to analog and not digital? Mark

I know just enough to be dangerous!
