Understood, and completely agree. Further, I don't think it was harsh. I realize that I didn't provide a huge history on what's gotten me to this point, so maybe you felt like I was fresh off the boat, and was about to frivolously drop a load of money, so you're point is well taken. But that doesn't mean I'm a veteran either. I have MUCH to learn about the process, at the same time, feeling like I know enough, and I'm going to need to invest something to take it to the next level. As far as the artful side of speakers are concerned, that is an entirely different topic. For the sake of his thread, I feel like it should be avoided, but that's the only small issue I would have with your initial comment. Beyond that, I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I've had an XPA-2 and an XPA-3, I now have an XPA-5 due to space considerations, and I really can't say as I noticed any difference in the sound, quality or quantity. For my sub woofer I needed a change from a DIY power amp, so I tried a few plate amps and numerous pro amps none of them quite gave me what I wanted. So in a previous "specials" I picked up an XPA-100, I figured I'd try it as a sub amp and if it didn't work out I could always buy another and use them as a stereo pair. Over a year later I still have it powering my sub, it gives me more musicality than any other power amp I tried and still has plenty of grunt for LFE. The are quite amazing sound wise and value for money is unbeatable. And you've basically described where I'm at with this. Remember, that eventually I would have to buy 6 mono-blocks to achieve stereo 3 way, or at least 5 if I just went mono on the low en, which would be fine. So cost per watt goes up considerably. I'm just not sure my ears are going to justify the difference. I already have an XPA-5, and it's been tremendous for HT, and I certainly don't think it would somehow be an underachiever in a decent stereo setup. The good thing about all this, is there are plenty of amp choices that are awesome. I just need to pick. My next step is to add a pair of XPA-1L's for the FR and FL. My reasoning is they sit at the power, price and size that fits my requirements. They also offer the option of running in Class A which, based on my previous experiences with Class A amplification, is something I have a liking for. Movies wise I really don't need or want more than the XPA-5 currently offers. The XPA-1L's will I have no doubt lift my 2.1 music listening, but I'm not expecting anything additional from them for movies. If I do then that will be a nice bonus. Cheers Gary

A lot of people, including Linkwitz, are having great results with DSP active crossovers: He's using a DSP crossover. The dbx DriveRack+.

Well, thanks for the informative remarks so far. Much of what I had a feeling about has been validated. At the same time, you've helped me to adjust my view here and there. I've just about decided what I want to do, all I gotta do now is count the beans, and see if there's enough. If not, a little more patience will have forced its way in, and I may be better off for it. What's cool about this, especially in the line of amplification, is it's really hard to go wrong what with all the Emo options. Just need to make sure I have enough power, one way or another. I'll post back how this all pieces together, and to be sure, it ain't happening tomorrow, but perhaps over the next month or so. In the meantime, I'll continue to monitor comments, and perhaps be able to refine my attack even a little more.

Quick update, I decided on 2 XPA-200s for starters, will likely get an XPA-2 later for low range, but want to get a nice 2-way system established first. Also picked up DBX Driverack PA2 for management. Can't wait to get rolling! Still waiting on XPA-200s.
