Last word was that the XMR-1 is not even on the drawing board yet Where did you hear that? Last I heard, it was fairly far along. Mark There is at least one post somewhere from someone who asked Emotiva directly not too long ago. It's in another XMR-1 thread or Atmos thread. They said Emotiva basically said it was only in the very first stages of development, and it wasn't even on radar as to when they would get to it. Too much other stuff going on. Where did you hear it was far along? I have not seen that posted by anyone here, either from Emotiva or by someone who has spoken to them directly.

Thanks for showing us the haystack...that is easy to find. Now,finding where the needle is in that haystack is a different problem. Mark

If I could recall where I heard that, I would share it. But,I can't and I searched the old fashioned and new fashioned way to find it. I have a feeling that what I recall was in a webcast (either of their own or from CES), and I relistened to a few to find it but could not. lesliew my comment that led to your response to me was in response to you saying the XMR is "not even on the drawing board yet". I took (and still do unless you clarify) that to mean " Emotiva has not lifted a finger/given it any thought". While there is likely a lot to finalize, as we have each said in our own ways, it would not surprise me to learn they are farther along than many give them credit for. But one thing is certain, given their newest communication policy that came directly from people freaking out with every slight twist of direction on everything...we won't know how far along they are until the are very close to launch. Anything other than that by anyone is speculation. Mark

OK, I wasn't going to share what I learned on my trip to headquarters but, I have all the dope! Heres the evidence,,,,,,,,,,,
secret documentation,
Hers 5 different renditions of the XMR-1,,,,,,,,
And the two guys with with thier individual drafts!! Exciting!!
Jr. & Sr. Designers. I was so privileged to share thier designs!! Hope y'all enjoyed, this and alot of thought have gone into the XMR-1, but it will have to wait, all the other staff has been extremely busy with The XPA- gen 3 amps, Emersa and the new passive speaker line. As well as subs and other secrets. Thats all for now folks.
OH! One more thing,,,,, I don't know Schiitt!

Never touch any of that stuff, today I called Emo and the response I recieved is what I have conveyed,,,,,,,,,,,in my own twisted way,,,,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,, basically, the XMR-1 is a blanch sheet of paper, they have put much investment into it, time and money, but nothing to touch or play with yet, mostly still concept. On another note, my storyline matches almost anything coming out of Hollywood these days! As far as a " new" idea goes!

Emotiva is actually in good company, Trinnov, Datasat, Theta and Emotiva are all waiting on Momentum's 4K video card. I'm familiar with their website, but do their products tend to be integrated into the higher end / modular processors? Whereas the Denon/Yammaha, etc of the world cram everything onto their own boards and develop things as one big monolithic topology? I heard Momentum a few times in the context of XMC-1 (mostly Emotiva being grateful for Momentum being such a good partner). Its not just Momentums 4k/60 video card but the dsp processing that lesliew has mentioned thats a bottleneck. This is from Dshultz ; formerly of datasat ; trinnovs altitude uses cpu processing to get its 32 ch version not dsp..

So am I accurate in saying that the Trinnov and Datasat both have a PC based architecture?
Some attributes of the current Datasat processor (RS20i maybe?) made me think it was running Linux of some kind (VNC capabilities for example). I was at the Release Party in Indy when it was unveiled a few years ago.
Very interesting distinctions between DSP capability and CPU capability.

Jim Trinnov and Datasat are very different beasts.
The Trinnov is essentially a PC and does its audio decoding / processing on the intel Core i7 CPU in software, it can decode upto 32 audio channels in software and runs a Linux OS.
The Datasat's only real similarity is that it uses PC style ad-on cards. The audio decoding / processing is done on the expansion card, these expansion cards are loaded with DSP's which in turn decode the audio format of that particular card. Need to add a new audio format in the future - Just buy a new card. The Datasat also runs a Linux OS.
Datasat's latest expansion card uses the same Sharc DSP's as used in Denon/Marantz processors for Atmos/DTS:x decoding and as such is currently limited to 11.1 3D audio processing. The Datasat theoretically supports 16 channels through channel duplication.
--- edit - The Trinnov is currenly limited to decoding 11.1 channels of DTS:X , however my understanding is that this is due to DTS not yet releasing the code. i.e it's not a hardware limitation

I wonder how much latency such a PC-based solution like the Trinnov might generate.

I wonder how much latency such a PC-based solution like the Trinnov might generate. As long as audio and video are in sync it doesn't matter imho
