I never said placebo isn't good - I'm simply making the statement that placebo is exactly what the listener most often hears when they spend money on their setup. Want to hear a real difference? Get different speakers! When you are sitting in front of that shiny new 500wpc $5000 amp with the $1000 interconnects you WANT it to sound better - ergo - it IS better - to you. Does it really sound better to you? If yes thats fine - but don't state it as FACT. Subjective experiences are just that - personal - and personal doesn't make it a fact. There is way too much subjectiveness being posted as fact around here. Take a DBX test then tell me how you did.

I guess I'm the first here to own both! I am currently using both and don't really feel there is a difference aside from the nicer build and aesthetics on the Emo cables. The Emo's are eye candy, my BJC's are straight black and don't look like anything special. Maybe I'll order my next pair through monoprice and report back. :-) If price were the same or close, I'd buy emo for the looks, if BJC was cheaper Id go that way.

I wonder what content you will be consuming with the cables. I would think that the blue jeans would be better for hippie/folk/Country While the emo cables would fit classical/singer song writer better.

only time i heard a difference was with Nordost speaker cables. They sounded bright. and I did an A/ B swap to pieces. But ironically they are in my system now and I guess I'm used to them. That or the $350 i paid makes them sound better. Who knows!!!

I'm about to buy some xlr interconnects and was thinking bluejean, but wondered if anyone had had a chance to compare BJ to the Emo interconnects, which look to have quite nice specs, but no idea what they sound like of course. Ta Pete S emo cables are much more impressive looking!!! cheers..

Knucklehead is absolutely right. Facts n only facts matters. I keep changing speakers and the sound changes to my ears. Cables....on short runs like in audio towers don't make a difference. Are the cables in my walls b/j or emotiva or what cheapest but up to code, my bastard builder decided to put...?
Where does this stop at? Cables inside the speakers or amps or preamp or dacs, etc... What ever ur ears decide to like is the best FOR YOU. Asking around what better cables to buy, while may be helpful, ain't going to help ur ears decide. Ur brain n its synaptic connections will decide n that is subjective 100% of the times, each time.

My favorites are Mogami multi-channel snake cable with Neutrik XLR connectors. Mogami wire and Neutrik connectors are the favorite choice and most used connectors and wire in the professional audio studio. These are multiple channels in one cable. The pictured cable is 8 channels in one cable, it's a slim and very flexible, very high quality cable with the finest sound quality and without the audiophile price. You can have them custom made to order at Pro Audio LA www.proaudiola.com/product-p/8-m2932-xlrf-xlrm-3-p.htm

The good news with Mogami is you DON'T have to be a 'Rich Guy' to afford 'em.
Guitar Center has the 6' Studio Gold for <40$ per. All-in-all, a very good bit of cable.
Little or NO need to go 'custom' unless you require a non-standard length.

I believe in PLACEBO Effect. I have even replaced all power cables besides interconnects and yet have to tell myself if all new cables make real improvements in sound quality. Each time replacement cables hooked up on the system I did hear difference in the sound compared to what I used to hear but I can't judge if it is a good change. Yes, I always tell myself that CABLES Will Not make sound, anyway I still love the new stuff I put on at least it look good to my own eyes.

Actually, I can say that over time, I've used almost EVERY cable mentioned so far:
Mono price, Mogami, Blue Jean, Emotiva, Nordost, Kimber, Audioquest and others.
With my eyes closed, I'd be unlikely to tell which was which. Over a longer time, I might be able to hear a difference between the Kimber & the Nordost - Kimber slightly softer in the treble, Nordost slightly brighter, but then again - the difference is so small that maybe I couldn't.
If you want cables to pass on to your grandchildren, the welded construction of the Blue Jean may be worth the money. If I were installing cables on a boat where galvanic corrosion would be an issue, their cost might be justified. Otherwise, cheaper is better.
OTOH, some swear that specific brands sound better in their systems, your money your choice. But I, personally, wouldn't spend any significant coin on wiring. Other things make bigger differences for the same $$.

From magic to placebo effect to maybe to can't tell to clothes hanger. This is a hobby and it can be fun to think things about gear. If I see someone say that there brass screws are magic or that wires that cost a small fortune are worth it, it bothers me. I like to see people have fun with this and thinking magic or spending large sums of money when not required is just not right. I understand all the in-between and great, have fun. Just don't get lost in all of it. Use common sense.

Forget cables!!! Here is what you need to hear a tremendous improvement. I DIYed a pair of RCAs last week with the Mogami cable. The thinner of the two they offer. No kidding, I pulled them out os service within 10 minutes. I think for the run , 10+ feet, they were to thin. I went back to my Sidewinders immediately.

Hey, I am considering a pair of XLR cables for my active monitors. Since you had used balanced cables can you tell me if you do feel the 'improvement' over RCA interconnect. Most people think XLR cable better only on long cable runs. Thanks.

KSAN: Sort of and it depends. IF your system is really a balanced system, you should get 6db more output AND have the benefit of eliminating ALL common mode interference. Many people feel there are FEW differences between such cables, even the guys who spend time seeking out 'the perfect cable'. If your system is NOT fully balanced, you may still get some benefit. Mogami is sold at Guitar Center and is the #1 brand on the planet. And considering both reputation and the fact that it is also probably the #1 STUDIO cable, than I don't think you can miss. A PAIR of the Studio Gold in 6' length will be <100$ out the door. And are a lifetime investment.

Hey, I am considering a pair of XLR cables for my active monitors. Since you had used balanced cables can you tell me if you do feel the 'improvement' over RCA interconnect. Most people think XLR cable better only on long cable runs. Thanks. I have just started using a fully balanced system. The DC-1 to XPA-1 gen 2 via XLR. I don't know if XLRs themselves make a difference. I do know that my sound is better than it has been. There is increased resolution and a much better sense of the size of the room it was reocrded in. On my particular system for some reason if the XLR cables I have tried is moderately long say 12 feet, then I foudn the treble got a bit reduced. I have no idea why. Maybe it's the DC-1 doesn't do that great with long cable runs. Maybe not. Maybe it's just something wierd. I suspect it's only an issue with my particular combination of copmonents. Other than that for XLR I couldn't say the cable made a difference Just that I feel if you have a system capable of being fully balanced, that would be the way I would go. If you already have active monitors with XLR connections, even if there is no audible differnece, I would use XLRs. I don't know if it will give you an improvement. However in some DACs and source output the single endedd RCA output results in a conversion. Or if oyu look at some DACs like the DC-1 you will see that the balanced output offers better distortion figures. So in this case going XLR may actualyl give real benefits. Whether one can ehar them is another story... But from monoprice.com XLR cables are dirt cheap. Go for it

I have not noticed any differences between the Monoprice and the Emotiva XLR's. Personally I use the XLR cables any time they are available for hook up. If nothing else the XLR seems to have a much more secure fit over the RCA cables. Hard to tell if there is any audible difference even after I have A/B'd them. So far on small cable runs I hear no difference but at least they fit more securely.

I will try XLR cable even it makes no difference but at least for a more secure connection. My cable run will be within 4 ~5 feet.
