I passed up a nice $200 pair of 7 Kappas at an estate sale last weekend. This thread makes me glad I did. I would need a new amp (and a new wife). Getting them in the car would be no picnic either.

You're a mensch, siggie - I wish that I had a basement! Instead, I have to give garbulky all my toys & let HIM risk divorce! LOL

The Carver TFM-55X amp is a monster. I should know. In 1994 I purchased one brought it home and then bought two more the next day! I recently sold two of them and sent the remaining one in to Rolland Barr at Hi-tech audio in Gresham, Or. He offers a full rebuild of the amp replacing all of the components (capacitors, resistors, etc) with upgraded audio grade stuff with tighter tolerances, etc. I'm not a techie so most of what he explained was over my head. Total cost for rebuild (chassis refresh) was $299 plus shipping. I also paid an extra $65 to have him put polypropylene bypass capacitors in to help the sound quality. The amp doesn't buzz or hum like it did since I first got it. After breaking in it has really warmed up and sounds great. I feel that this service was a great value. If you love your tfm-55x amps it might be worth a phone call. Enjoy the kappas! Gorgeous speakers!!! emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/41806/advice-re-kappa-9semotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/41806/advice-re-kappa-9sThe amp came home this week.
