I would like to set up a way to connect devices to the dc-1 so that I can play music thought it. I already has a connecter through USB but that cannot connect to my iPhone. It would be nice if it could connect to any device.
Is this possible?

Is this possible? If you want to hook up your iPhone the easiest way would be through an Apple Airport express and a fibre cable. You could then wirelessly send your iPhone's music to the DC-1. You also say 'any device', what else do you want to hook up?

I would like to also be able to hook up blackberry devices (playbook, passport). It would be nice if I could plug any device into it like through a headphone jack.

You can get a 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable and plug it into the analog input on the DC-1. This won't give the best possible sound quality because you'll be using the DAC in your device (Blackberry, etc.) instead of the DC-1's DAC, but it will be easy and do what you're asking. This particular cable is well suited for that purpose. Monoprice 3.5 to Stereo RCA - Mobile Devices

Yes, this looks fine. The key is that it's mobile compatible, meaning the jack can plug into your device even with a case on, this one calls it 'step down'. I often recommend Monoprice for cables like this because they are reasonably well made, inexpensive, and they have good customer service. That said there are plenty of good cables and this looks like one of them.

It may be a good one, but it doesn't look like it's designed for mobile devices with cases (see the 'step'). I have found this feature to be invaluable, the other two above both have this.

Ok, I will order one in the next few days. Thanks for all your help.

Looking at the emotive cable it appears as if it would work. It says that it is "Ideal for connecting portable devices" in the description.

If you don't have cases on any of your devices you might be fine. Look at the 3.5mm plugs of the three cables to see the difference. I'd get one of the first two, but I have cases.

Audiohtit is right. If you have a case like an otter box etc that step thing they have REALLY helps. I remember my wife had lots of trouble due to the case and I wish I knew about this before. If you don't have a case it's not as big of a deal.

What is a case?

Good news, if you don't know what it is, then you don't have one! It's just a protector case that you buy to protect the phone in case you drop it

So you can pay $4 for a cable that will work with or without a case, or $10 for one that will only work without a case. Seems too much thought is going into a cheap cable.

Ok, that makes sense. I thought you were referring to something more complicated.

There are lots of little Bluetooth receiver devices that provide analog outputs which you could connect to the analog input of your DC-1. Here's one: www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8Z492ttP-Bluetooth-Music-Receiver/dp/B0047T79VSHowever, we haven't tried any of them, and I'm sure the sound quality varies considerably. There are also probably at least a few little gadgets like this that give you a digital output and, if so, they should also work. Just bear in mind that the sound quality from most Bluetooth devices is not usually as good as a direct digital connection (and it varies depending on what device you're talking about, what version of Bluetooth it supports, and what capabilities of that version it uses; you want something that at least supports Aptx). Of course, any analog cable that fits through the hole in your case should work fine - but the analog outputs on many portable devices are not that good (you will, of course, be using the DACs in your phone or iPod and only using the DC-1 as a preamp and volume control). The best solution (in terms of sound quality) is to use a real iPhone DOCK, which the phone sits in, and which provides a digital output you can connect to the DAC. However, you have to make sure it has a real digital connection to the phone, or you might as well just use a wire. Also be aware that Apple devices require a special "encryption processor" on anything you connect them to digitally; without that, the iPhone or iPod will refuse to output any digital audio, even if it's the right type of connection and all the rest. (This means that, even if your iPod has a USB output, you have to use an "Apple certified" iPod dock or cable if you want it to work.) A company called iPure used to make a decent one at a reasonable price - but I believe it only has the old iPhone connector (maybe they have a newer model).

Where did you find that?! Nice find! It will work. Also you can use a digital optical cable to the DC-1 (which you absolutely want to do).
