I have a good friend with an original Naim Nait amp from like 85. He still likes and uses it everyday. I could see having my Cronus for that long.

I'm really thinking that the requirements for a two channel system are very different than HT, but so many make it one and somehow aren't happy.
For me, two systems with 2 channel vastly more important. No interest whatever in 5.1, 7.1, Dirac, Atmos ad nauseum.

Your Oppo can serve double duty in that regard. At the very least as a transport to a DAC. The Oppo is a capable unit, but is no substitute for a competent CD/SACD player. Even when used as a transport to a just as capable DAC? I'll bet you a cold one in a DBT. ..PS I'm not even an OPPO fan.

I believe DBT is a valid, but over-rated testing method, because it forces a participant to actively (stressfully) listen for differences rather than passively (relaxed) observe them, and can therefore lead to a tainted result.

Yes, but my whole point is that if you have already invested in a 103, it is more than capable to serve as a transport for whatever DAC you want. I would not buy a separate player especially if you are getting an external dac anyway. That was really my initial point.

So there is or is not a difference.
Which is right or preferable?
What's important is how musical it is, ultimately, for long-term satisfaction.
In my system, the Oppo 105 lasted two days before being returned. Video was great, audio not so much at all.

In my system, the Oppo 105 lasted two days before being returned. Video was great, audio not so much at all. Couldn't agree more. I sold a Pioneer Elite D9 SACD to purchase an Oppo, based on the notion that it was the second coming. I was quickly disappointed, and spent the next 6 months looking for another D9, settling for a D9 MkII.

The sabre dac is very sensitive to implementation and analog output stage design, both of which my Grace m920 excels at.
I feel that Oppo cuts corners, especially in their Sabre implementation as compared to the earlier BDP 95.

It serves up blue ray movies nicely. As far as it's Cd playback, well let's just say that it is a great Blue Ray Player. I want to get a CD player for my Stereo System which currently has a Toshiba HD-A1 as transport into my Qute. It's using a crappy toslink cable that I had around. I really should give it a shake with a decent coax cable, which I actually will do before I buy a CD player. I have never had a Sabre DAC, but I do have a Geek Wave on order with dual 9018AK2M DACs. I'm hoping this gives me a good flavor for how the Sabre DACs sound,

Talking about lighting. I am switching all my standard light bulbs to LEDs That's my goal too. But I have a total of 42 ceiling cans in the home(!) so it'll take a substantial investment to swap them out with LED bulbs.

You would be all set for Atmos or whatever is coming down the pipe with in ceilings!

Between DAYLIGHT and COOL LEDs I prefer the DAYLIGHT. I have only 7 ceiling fans(and I thought I had alot. ) These bulbs average $ 9-12 each so it is high BUT our electric bill has gone down about 15%. They run cool and look better, good luck
