Time for everyone with Atmos AVRs to now upgrade their AVRs to DTS:X. OEMs have to eat.

Time for everyone with Atmos AVRs to now upgrade their AVRs to DTS:X. OEMs have to eat. That's exactly what I was thinking.

Which is why for me, waiting for the XMR-1 makes so much sense. Color me a "not so early" adopter!

^ Yeah, but 5 months after the XMR-1 comes out, you'll be wishing you had the brand-spanking new shiny Dolby Digital Destiny* super-lossless format, followed 3 months later by DTS:ZR6 which is 26% better than the Triple-D stuff.
* Both DDD and DTS:ZR6 seek to enhance the home theater experience by using upward-firing speakers built into the floor. Audio cues such as footsteps, squealing rubber, and underwater dolphin chirps will become amazingly lifelike.

^^^ And I'll have my UFL to use on the new processor! I'm a car guy too....so who could resist a ZR6 to put in my home theater?
In all seriousness, when I finish my home theater, I plan to install the latest processor and speaker layout (within reason, of course). And if DTS:ZR6 or XYZ is released 5 months later, it will be expected, but won't tempt me to upgrade. If I had a finished theater now, it would be a tough sell to upgrade processing and modify my ceiling to make Atmos/Auro/DTS:X happen. So, it's not so much needing the latest and greatest audio format that drives my decision. It's more about how it fits with my build schedule.
Speakers in the floor, huh? Maybe I'll plan on area rugs until the 4D audio formats are released!!
Now back to my shop to continue working on my car restoration. If I drag that out long enough, 4D audio might be here!
Cheers!
