Hi mattgarman, I think I experienced what you mean with fatigue at 44/16 vs 176/16.
When I had my ps3 I was outputing mp3 audio at 44/16 and the sound quality was fine. but changing it to 176/16, it was very pleasant listening to the same mp3.
