See my update in my OP re. Logitech setup. For the one remaining problem I have, I can't find a workaround. For my use - it's OK. It's the family complaints I am expecting that will be a problem for me. See the OP at the end for details.

But the bottom line is turn off AGC with the Emo setup and don't bother looking for it with the Umik. Where do you "turn off AGC with the Emo setup"? Thanks, Mark

Thanks, Mark He means turn off AGC in windows when using the Emotiva mic. If you use another mic many don't give you that option in Windows for the sound recording tab.

geeboAnd you expect me to take the advice of a guy with grammar like his? I mean..."a burgundy is gooder"? Those of us with a "proper" edumacation know it's "goodest". Mark

PS - sold my XSP-1 already and bought an XPS-1 to make up for the lack of phono stage in the XMC-1.

XPS sounds great! See OP...not a full test yet, but it is every bit as good as the phono stage from my XSP-1.

Mark Yep, like I said,,,,,sideways/same phono stage,,,,,,just no analog bass management. you need to use the digital of the XMC-1 or none. im still kicking this around, not sure I need Subs at all,,,,,,but,,

Thanks George! I set it to 100% volume in the settings, and there were a couple boxes about letting other softwares control the mic and I checked those. I have no idea if it was right, but it sounds good and the choices seemed logical. Mark How did you guys get Dirac to accept the UMIK-1? I tried using it instead of the EMM-1 and it Dirac kept saying "Mic not connected".

I just plugged mine in and it recognized it, so I used it. I didn't have to do anything special at all (running Windows 8.1). I just followed the directions in Emo's manual step by step and it all worked. Seems like there was a step on the driver that was in the manual that is key to use, but that is all I did.

I presume you have the mic plugged into your PC, not the XMC...right? And, you are using Dirac full, not LE, right?

I presume you have the mic plugged into your PC, not the XMC...right? Yes I've had the Umik-1 for over a year now and I was using it with REW to generate PEQ for the UMC-200 and my minidsp. Dirac, for sure, does a way better job than I was ever able to do with REW. I just wanted to see if there'd be any difference between the EMM-1 and the UMIK-1. I'll try it again tomorrow. Might just be a matter of closing any other application that's possibly using the UMIK-1.

No, I'm using LE. Is it not expected to work with LE?

There you go...LE can only use the emo mic. You can load different calibration curves though...some have tried that and liked the results. As I recall, ansat has different cal files in his signature that you can try.

I did not know that. I will play around with LE for a while before I consider getting the Full version. Yes I have been using socketman's CSL calibration file. I should give the regular Emotiva file a try as well just to see what the differences are. So far everything sounds good to the ear - maybe a little less bass in 2 channel mode than I'd like. Everything else seems to be spot on. We'll see what REW says tomorrow.
