Hello,
I'm using my old speakers for TV setup. I need speakers for desktop use. Near-field desktop use only. Was wondering which would be better? Emotiva Airmotiv 5S or 6S? I would like 6S but thinking size may be an issue. Also thinking, would 6S be overkill considering I will be only a few feet away from the speakers. Will not be using any subwoofer, never have and likely never will.

The 5s is a great choice. Though if you can swing the space, more headroom, richer bass with the 6s. Either way, your going to love them both.

Agreed, either would be great depending on how much space you have. I use the older Airmotive 5's which I like very much, but wouldn't hesitate to switch to the 6 (or newer 6S).

If you're not using a sub, the 6s might be the better choice.

At nearfield I don't think the 5s would be a problem.

Don't worry about the size even if its just a couple feet.

Don't worry about the size even if its just a couple feet. Size always matters...... Either will work, I've heard the 5's and they sound great. If it were me I'd get the 6's since you do not want a subwoofer.

What music source are you going to use? Do you have a DAC?

Hi zymphad - Honestly, I'd recommend the Airmotiv 4s for desktop use. They're the right size, sound better than they have any right to, cost less than the bigger brothers, and (to my ears) sound just as good. Happy Shopping! Boom

Boom I'm with Boom 100% on this one, Airmotive 4's are unbeatable for the desktop. Cheers Gary

AND - for near field monitoring, the 4's have AMAZING bass!

I would have said airmotiv 4 too but you only gave me two choices. Hehe. The AM4 did great in my small living room with no subwoofer (within reason)!

The 6s in my opinion are way to big for desktop use. They are more for stand mounting as mains.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm thinking 5S may be what I am looking for. I'll be using a dedicated DAC (dual wolfson 8742 with pre-amp variable output) with my computer.
