Burr-Browns, no wonder I like that sound,,,,,my Yamaha 3020 has the same. This could be an example of why I think it's such a sideways move.

Sounds like the reviewer didn't enjoy the limitations of Dirac LE too much, which seems to make Dirac Full a no-brainer. Otherwise, quite a glowing review.

Uhh I heard the xmc with dirac le (a number of times)and I own the anthem mrX with arc2 and I understand the "bright" comment in the review. As for the bass I thought dirac done a better job than arc did,and this is in a extremely challenging room. Now dirac had the channel volume issues to work out and I thought this was a serious issue because channel level matching in itself can drastically change the users mind on how this pre/pro sounds or at least the room correction . Would I buy the xmc after reading this review ? Probably because I already heard the thing and I liked it and I could hear how much potential it has. Would a anthem or xt32 user see the xmc as a upgrade after reading it ? I don't think so.

I agree that Dirac Full is the way to go and buying it is a good thing, but honestly, I had no issue with LE. It worked well for me. Other than that, good review.

Looks like the reviewer didn't get Socketman's calibration file. . And it takes multiple calibration attempts to get Dirac dialed in. And the speakers that he has Deftechs leave much to be desired in absolute fidelity. I run my system w Dirac LE on all the time...I can't live without it anymore. I usually don't care what reviewers say anyway but these were my initial thoughts.

Looks like Stereophile is working on a review of the XMC-1 as well. There was a word at the bottom of a review that it was upcoming.

A couple of comments stood out for me; Keith's handy work I expect DC offset from a McIntosh amp, not an unusual problem in my experience. And my favourite; Cheers Gary

Well, I was a little disappointed that he didn't call and ask for any advice re: Dirac, and he didn't try the full version we provided. Oh well. But all in all a great and solid review. The spec's speak for themselves! And he really like the OS... And the manual! Kudo's to Keith!

If you guys provided the full version, it really would have been nice if he would have taken the time to use it. As good as the review is, without dialing in Dirac he only has 1/2 the picture because as you know, the XMC-1 is literally unbeatable when it's dialed in. It's all good though because from Avsforum, it looks like Kal has Dirac full dialed in...so the folks who rely on reviews will get the full picture then. Also, he uses better associated equipment that can reveal just how transparent the XMC-1 is.

He may not have wanted to review something that didn't come standard on the XMC-1, Dirac Full being an add on was not what he was reviewing, had it been standard issue he very well may have tried it. That said, he did claim to ask for assistance with LE, unless I misread it. the specs and sound are exemplary and he did state that he had to keep reminding himself what the extremely reasonable cost of entry was for such a great piece of gear. well, that's what I got out of the review, in one word ,,,,he was THRILLED , that's what I walked away feeling.

He complained of brightness and loss of bass,DOH been there done that LOL I wish EMO would just admit they F'd up.

I thought the review was good, but felt he was being very cautious. If he keeps it and dials it in more you could see a different outcome. For me the LE version did a great job. I've played with the full version and tried some different curves that people were saying worked better in their system and I still think the best run I did with LE is just as solid for me. It is finicky and you can get a different result every time you run it. I have 2 runs I really like, one from LE and one from full.
Cheers Mark

It would seem maybe a 'Further Thoughts on the XMC-1' would give him a chance to play with Dirac full and have some discussions on how to best tune it.
Overall though I thought it was a pretty thorough and balanced review; he touched on features, build, appearance, engineering, detailed measurements, and sound.

I agree with most of the impressions here regarding this review - overall, a smashingly positive treatise, and I imagine Kal's will be even more so if he is availing himself of Dirac Full.
Two comments in Robert's review did catch my attention. First, he remarked that his system was much louder ("approximately 10 dB") at the same volume setting when using the Dirac preset than it was with Preset 1. I'm sure that's entirely possible if he was applying quite a bit of cut to several of the unit's PEQ controls for Preset 1. However, my system is noticeably louder with Preset 1, which I've left flat (default), than it is with the Dirac preset, and I think most users have noticed the same thing.
Second - and I've seen similar impressions expressed several times in this forum - Robert remarked that applying the stretch option to the OSD menu "makes the menu text look strange." Personally I think the menu looks just dandy on my 1080p display when the stretch option is engaged. It's much easier for me to read the options from my standard viewing/listening position when stretched than when left in its standard aspect ratio. As I've said, many here have expressed Robert's opinion, but I doubt I'm the only one who prefers the stretch option.

I am in a position to buy...Although I am going to wait for the news on the RMC-1? (forgot what Dan called it) or the lower model than the XMC-1 - I would like to have a understanding prior to the price increase though....@ Dan ..will we hear anything soon ? I was sort of expecting to hear news this past weekend at the conference...maybe I mis read /heard into the podcast. Cheers Joe!
