So the speaker building bug has bitten me again. I always wanted to build a pair of line arrays and decided to purchase 50 of the Fountek FE83. There will be 25 in each line array crossed over with a mini DSP. I have all of the drivers and am trying to find the best options for the front baffle so they can breathe. Attachments:

Imaging and sound stage are supposed to be incredible with this type of speaker arrangement. I had the chance to here a pair of line arrays a long time ago and it was as if you could not pinpoint where the music was coming from. If you google IDS-25 can find some other builds as well as Roger Russels website who originally designed them.

I am aware of that kit. The original design of the IDS-25 was create by A named Roger Russel, he was an engineer for Macintosh (if you google IDS-25, you will find his website). There are also a few DIY builds on other forums. A few of these guys have helped me out with their experiences. The trick to these is that they have to be equalized which I am going to do with a mini dsp.

Very cool. I would love to listen to a pair of these sometime. I've been knocking around the idea of building one of these rigs/kits for the last 2 years. Scott

As you allready said the IDS arrays of Rogers are meant to be operated with an EQ , if it were me i'd use a Mcintosh MQ-101 EQ on the IDS design arrays vs running them with the mini DSP ,the IDS EQ & the Mcintosh MQ-101 are of the same design, have you emailed Roger & asked him what material to use or about the EQ ? Roger is very friendly as well as helpfull & normally responds to all questions within a day or two & has been a huge help to.me over the years, if you cant get in touch with him via his earthlink email i can call him & give him your number if you like ? Fyi ive been running Rogers line arrays for well over 20 years now & no other speaker comes close to his arrays for pinpoint imaging , bass response & depth , at any price point , even our JBL K2's dont have the depth or imaging of the IDS arrays ,if you EQ them properly & they end up sounding like the IDS arrays your in for one heck of a treat , im currently using 2 pair of Rogers Mcintosh XRT-22 line arrays as well as Rogers personal Mcintosh XR-290 arrays in white finish & love them all , now i just gotta convince him to sell me his center channel speaker that matches the 290's Again if Roger dont respond to your email within a few days post it here & i'll ask him to call you .

Did you build the IDS arrays yourself? Where is his email address I could not find it on the IDS website, would love to get in touch with him.
Thanks, Greg

Thanks, Greg No,i have auditioned the IDS arrays in my home with our 1,200 watt Mcintosh monoblocks but didnt buy them , instead i bought Rogers personal pair of Mcintosh XR-290 line arrays as i prefer them over the IDS arrays ,we also have 3 other Mcintosh line arrays designed by Roger , the XRT-18 array & 2 pairs of the XRT-22 arrays , then other brand speaker systems as well . You can reach Roger at ( rogerr4@earthlink.net ) & he's an awesome guy , im not gonna post his phone # on the boards but if he dont answer you within a few days let me know & i'll get you in touch with him by phone .

No did not send him an email yet. I plan on getting these done and then bugging him on on a design using drivers closer to his original design. Oh. on the Mcintosh MQ-101, I have been looking for one, kind of hard to find

No did not send him an email yet. I plan on getting these done and then bugging him on on a design using drivers closer to his original design. Oh. on the Mcintosh MQ-101, I have been looking for one, kind of hard to find Its been about a year since i spoke with Roger but last time we spoke i do believe he mentioned having all the driver info on his IDS arrays listed someplace on his Mcintosh history website . Check out his Mcintosh history page & he has everything he ever made for Mcintosh spec'd out & im pretty sure his company IDS as well , he had a bunch of drivers & Mcintosh gear as well as parts for sale when we spoke last so he may even have the proper drivers for the IDS arrays he will sell you , just keep looking on ebay & audiogon.com for the MQ-101 & one will pop up soon or Roger may have an MQ-101, its a fairly common vintage Mcintosh piece & a super clean model should be right around $300 without the wood case , with a near mint case around $400 , with factory packing around $500. Check Rogers Mcintosh history site for items for sale & if he has the drivers or eq it'll all be listed for sale.
