Hello,
I am having some noise with the above combination. It noise like low volume pink noise coming from the the tweeter of my Magnepan 3.6R even when there is nothing playing.
I do not have this noise when I use my MC402 amplifier with the C2200 pre amp nor when I use my Audio GD NFB-6 as a pre-amp for the XPA-1.
Using a cheater plug does not solve the issue. I live in an apartment so I cannot have any rewiring done.
I am using a 35ft balanced cable run from pre amp to amp.
Any reason why it is causing that noise with the above combination?
Thanks.
Jon

For grins, can you try things with, say, a 6' cable?

I currently do not have speaker cables long enough if I move the amp(s) close to the premap as you suggested.
My equipment rack is on the back corner of the room.
If it were the cables, why isn't the noise showing in the other equipment combinations?

If it were the cables, why isn't the noise showing in the other equipment combinations? Because it's different equipment. I have equipment that shows an audible ground noise and equipment that shows none of it.

I forgot to mention that I tried using a cheater plug and the issue is still there. I edited the first post to reflect this.
Any other suggestions?

Reduce the volume on the C2200 as low as you can and are still able to hear the noise. Then try bending and lightly/moderately tugging on your XLR cables near the strain reliefs on both the amp and pre-amp ends. Also try moving the amp power cables, don't strain them just move them further and closer to the XLRs.

Jack, the noise is the same level regardless of volume. Tugging and repositioning the cables did not change anything. Someone else on another thread said the hiss might have to do with thr C2200 being a tube pre-amp Reduce the volume on the C2200 as low as you can and are still able to hear the noise. I mentioned turning the pre-amp down just to avoid potential excessively loud noises if you did have an intermittent cable. I've heard it said that tube equipment can be more susceptible to picking up stray noises. The unit you have though is awfully high quality.
