Been searching for a hour going in circles from all of the redirect links.
can someone post a verified link to the firmware files? my umc-200 has corrupted its software and is not responding to anything. need help ASAP.

Firmware version .47 (latest release version). Includes the updater and instructions.... (ignore the fact that the instructions refer to a different version of the FW) Attachment Deleted

I've been unproductive in updating my firmware. I need to know if I need to make a connection between my computer and the UMC-200. I believe I have read somewhere here on the boards regarding the updater that the red-x isn't really informative or meaningful. I have reason to doubt this. Here's what I'm seeing If the connection is necessary then, I won't be able to update because I cannot get the USB drive(s) to start (Error #10)

How else should the data get to your DSP - fly, via Magic, teleportation...? Of course you Need a Connection! HOW to do this and WHEN is exactly described in the description Keith provided in the file in his post. Even the "Red X" is described. So yes, my question was sincere. Since you are also mentioning "USB drives" I assume that you did not RTM. I would suggest to just do this...

When I meant a connection, I didn't mean a physical connection as you understood it, I meant a "USB handshake" connection. The "USB Drive(s)" in my post was a typo. I meant USB Driver(s). Back to my original remark regarding the "Red-X". A few weeks back, I was scanning though ALL of the threads/posts regarding the UMC-200 update experience. Another poster had glibly mentioned the Red-X did not mean the USB drivers did NOT start. Although, I doubt this to be true, the false-negative behaviour this poster mentioned I believed to be worthy of investigation. In any case, I'm giving up on that hunch. As it stands, my unit is stuck in the infinite loop and I cannot establish a "USB handshake." The drivers are loaded but not started because of this loop. I have carefully read both the original manual and the addendum subsequently provided. As an alternative, I also reviewed and unsuccessfully tried the steps provided by Denist and endorsed by Keith. If my update experience were like a baseball game, I can't get even get a pitch let alone to first base. The longest I've let my unit try to load has been four hours. Surprisingly, when I turned the unit yesterday for the first time in two weeks, I got past loading to the error message but alas did not establish the handshake, hence my interest in the USB drivers and some of the 'information' that has been flying around the threads associated with the UMC-200 update. Just how long do I let the infinite loop run before I either get a "handshake" or give up and RMA the unit?

Ok - small typos but big difference, sorry I was really irritated by that!
Dumb question perhaps, but are you using the correct USB port of the UMC-200? There are 2 ports but only 1 can be used for updating... This would explain all of your Problems.
If this is not the case, did you try different cables? For me a shielded one didn´t work but the cheap one from a digital camera did.
Normally the handshake works pretty quick.

I'm using the port which adapts to the B-End of the USB cable. I've recognized the other one for a Bluetooth Dongle.
I was debating going and getting another USB A-B cable. But I don't have good reason to believe my current one doesn't work. Today, when I turn on the UMC-200, Windows Device Manager recognizes a USB device is calling for a handshake but can't start the driver. I have tried umpteen times to start-shut-down and restart but can't get a handshake.
So four hours is too long, eh? I'm going to try a few more times. I might let the unit hibernate (no power) for a few days then try it. Now I've got the USBXpress drivers and hope I can at least get past the loading loop to the typical error messages everyone else sees to get a 'handshake.'
Otherwise, I have an RMA for repairs. That's my get-out-of-jail-free card.
Ironically, I had no interest in updating my unit. I was pretty happy with it they way it was operating. Eight weeks ago out of the blue, I started receiving OSD errors, DSP errors. Support suggested I try an update and here I am.

Another question, what OS are you using? Windows XP and 7 should work, the rest I am not so sure.

To attempt flashing the UMC-200, I'm using my laptop with Windows 7/64-bit, a three foot USB A-B cable and USBXpress version 3.3 drivers, done in Normal Mode.
I actually hi-jacked this thread so we better let this one terminate. The OP got their answer. I just came here because I had the same initial obstacle and was curious what the response would be. It was considerate of Keith to post that link. I had to get Support to email me the link.
I might start a new thread in this forum with my question from above: How long should one let the UMC-200 stay in a loading loop?

I'm having the same problem. I can't get the red x to go away. I have updates the USBExpress drivers to 3.3 since I'm running W7. Still cannot get the "handshake". Did anyone ever solve this problem or offer possible solutions? BTW I just unwrapped a brand new 6' USB cable so it's not that.

Just for the record, the UMC-200 is ridiculously fussy about the USB connection you use to update it (it's intended more as a "service connection" than an end-user connection). So don't assume what will and won't matter based on what you know about "normal USB connections on normal USB devices". This means that..... 1) You may find that some USB cables work and others don't (and a three foot one is more likely to work than a six foot one). And some perfectly good cables may simply not work here. 2) Likewise, some ports on some computers may simply not work, while others do. (Different ports may be wired differently inside the computer.) 3) The UMC-200 is super-fussy about the wire being connected to IT; even if the computer is disconnected. For one thing, if you disconnect the USB cable from the computer, but leave it connected to the back of the UMC-200, when you're not actually doing the update, you will PROBABLY get errors when you try to start the UMC-200, and it may not boot at all...... (yes, THAT fussy). 4) And, yes, the Red X is absolute - the red X means that you do NOT have a solid connection with a working handshake... and the update will NOT work. 5) We've also found that some UMC-200's simply won't work with some computers (even if you're doing everything right); so, if you have one handy, it's worth trying a different computer. Hi all, I need the UMC-200 firmware also and cannot find it. Is the only way to get it by calling or emailing Emotive support? Also, does anyone know if it's loadable from a Windows 10 computer? Thanks, - Brian
