So, I turned on my amps tonight and something blew in the amplifier and started shooting flames and caught on fire. Terrified my family, as we were just sitting down to play a game of Uno. Is this something I need to constantly worry about with my other 3 amps? If I wasn't there, the house probably would have caught on fire. Really a scary experience for us all.

First time I've heard of such a thing. Thank God you're all OK Very Bizarre Customer service said they would service the amp, at my cost, out of warranty. Not very reassuring, considering I have 3 more of these potential fire hazards active in my household. This amp was sent in for noise issues a couple of years ago, came back with the same noise issues, I don't feel it has ever been right.

Glad you and your family are ok on a serious note, on another note I don't remember seeing fireworks on the feature page. I have a friend who's parasound amp did that and it turned out that a spade had made itself loose over time....and Parasound took care of him..no charge

Glad u n family are ok,..I would have expected Emotiva to look into this matter and fix it at no charge for you, if it turns out to be an internal fault of the amplifier.

I'm not sure what I expected, but under the conditions, it wasn't this. I mean, my kids were asking to stay at a different house after it happened. I may as well just buy a different non-Emotiva amp.

Yeah that's CRAP! I'd give them a call and not an email.

Yeah that's CRAP! I'd give them a call and not an email. It's definitely not the response I expected, having been a long time customer. Disheartening, really.

Let's be fair guys, An accommodation would be nice, but,,,,,,, A five year transferable warranty is a good deal as well, but time labor and shipping are not free, I'm not being a fanboy, I'm a businessman. I understand loyalty and fair practices but come on, it's almost 1 1/2 years past the warranted period. What do we want, high dollar forever guarantees?? Just saying,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Before this convo gets too flamed up (pun intended? But of course). I'd call them tomorrow rather than email. Giving them some benefit of the doubt even after that crap response, perhaps whomever answered your email corespondence was a low level employee who was merely going by the book. That person clearly was not looking at the big picture of a reputation of a "good manufacturer" that would take care of a one off situation such as this for a few dollars in light of how things spread now a days via social media and certainly in light of having a good reputation when trying to create a wider client base now via a dealer network. I'm sure if you get someone higher level on the phone that gets the big picture here they will have the wisdom to take care of you, under the right conditions of course as this would be a minor cost to them, yet would bolster their good reputation. You can't buy advertising like that, and certainly not for so little of a cost.

I would call them, I always do. I don't care for the impersonal e-mail or note, give them a call and share your concerns. I am so glad no one was hurt, I would also make this event a learning situation for your children on the safety and dangers of appliances. More homes are burned to the ground each year because of an aged or faulty device, toasters alone account for many of them. Keep safe and God bless. Nick

Nick My kids actually ran to the "safe spot" across the way, that they were to go to if they saw fire, so it was a good drill anyway!

Sorry to hear the bad news Jason, that really sucks. Glad everyone is okay and no damage was done outside the amp itself.
I would definitely call Emotiva direct, skip the emails...and let them know you have supported their company for as long as you have because in part the service reputation of them standing behind their product. I cannot attest to what they can provide you with however I can tell you my thoughts. I have seen them sell the UPA-2 factory refreshed models for under $200. I would suggest that maybe they offer you a partial trade in value of your deceased amp on any other amp in their line up. If you purchase say, an XPA-200 they split the difference with you or something.
I hope they take care of you, that is not something I ever want to witness....especially with all the sh*t I have in house....I may burn down the block!

Personally, I think you need to move on and if you need a new amp just go ahead and get one.

Whatever the case I would not get that amp repaired. I doubt they would attempt a repair anyway, but if it is offered don't get it repaired. Too much of a risk.
I think it's amazing how few companies have a "your product caught on fire CS policy." I think they really should. Starting with an Oh my gosh. Followed by let's make it up to you at once. Ending with sorry again!
My (top of the line at time) motherboard caught on fire within the warranty and Asus basically seemed skeptical and expected me to pay for shipping. I said....uh...did you grasp the whole CAUGHT ON FIRE bit I just mentioned? I think paying for shipping is the least you can do. I sent it in with a big note on it taped onto it saying warning - product caught on fire. Be Careful. They replied telling me that it looks like there is fire damage (ya think? ) and so it is not covered under warranty.
Abyssmal service from Asus. So now I spread my experience with them any chance I get. I would have been a loyal Asus customer for life had they actualyl did what they supposed to do with their CS. But they lost more money in negative publicity and lost sales with that one experience. They could have used that experience to figure out why their unit...you know...CAUGHT ON FIRE. But I digress.
I think Emotiva has a chance to gain public appreciation ponts here. Something tells me they will. You can't buy that kind of good publicity and loyalty with ads. But...they are under no obligation to you to do so due to the warranty being expired. They've come through for me, so I am hoping they will come through for you too. Best of luck to you. I would also get an electrician down there and see if there's some sort of bad electricity going on at your place. Maybe a bad DC offset, I don't know much about this stuff. But I think it's something you would want to know just in case for the future.

Glad you and your family are okay.
I would have expected Emo to want to bring this unit in to see any engineering or manufacturing issues the amp (or amps) have. How about we, here in the forum, help with the cost but with a report coming back on this?
It was the XPA-3s I think that had the "history" (loosely used) of being a fire hazard.

From the photo it is clear that a cap blew up. This shouldn´t happen with an amp this new. So if the caps aren´t of inferior quality or seriously underspecced, or you used the amp in a very cramped (hot) environment for a long time, I would also expect Emotiva to do something on their cost...

Yes, looks like a cheap cap blew up....may want to upgrade those on all those amps.
