Well, it isn't funny, but today's "humor" for me is that once I installed Windoze 10, my JRiver Media Center no longer works.
I'm getting profoundly fed up with JRiver.
Every time they come out with a version change, I'm forced to buy the software yet again. The major bugs that the program has never seem to get fixed. Every time my computer's OS changes, the program fails.
I mean, it isn't as if they didn't know that Win 10 was coming - Instead, they chose to keep up their boat payments instead of investing in the program and supporting their customers.
Absolutely no excuse.

All I had to do was Install JRiver again over the top in Windows 10 and it works plus it kept my settings and is still registered. Try just installing JRiver again in Windows 10. Actually its on there forum yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=99125.0

Just do a reinstall. No charge, took me 10 minutes.
PS - iTunes doesn't play FLAC.

I woukd submit that Microsoft abuses their customers. Think about all the extra work necessary to keep a windows machine running in tip top shape. They continue to put out massively inferior product every other version and they continue to make major changes when not necessary.
Why did we have to upgrade from Windows XP? It was stable, fast and a really good OS.... Windows 7 also was a great operating system.
What is with Microsoft's counting system?
Windows 3.1, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. If my first grader called that counting he would fail math.
All this from a guy that still thinks Windows is the operating system to use because Linux is not usable for the everyday person and Apple just isn't used by enough businesses.
I'll not be changing my music pc to 10 probably ever, and my other PCs will probably not get moved from 7. My wife's probably will get 10 from 8.1, but that is because 8.1 sucks.

I use JRiver. And in the past had a operation user question about their remote appl use and code problems and emailed them for help. They have no phone. And was told " ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS are asked in their PUBLIC FORUM and answered by their USER COMMUNITY" which I find odd. I wrote back for a simple answer. The responses became more bizarre. The last from J River communication was "if you don't like it take a hike bud, I guess we will have to survive without you", I kept the email. This is the most unprofessional response from a company ever. I did nothing and figured out my operating error without their help This odd response came from Jim Hillegass their Founder and CEO. Jim has 30 years of experience developing and marketing software products. A graduate of Princeton , Jim began his business career in 1958, when his family established Cliff's Notes.
Updates costing for a internet program is somewhat of a scam IMHO also.
One weird thing though is I have Window 10 and have no issues and did not have to reload my J River.
I listen to 90% files on my external hard drive so this operating program selection is key for me now and I know several J River users who have switched. Most do not like the user unfriendly site. I think I too may consider a switch DOWN THE ROAD.

Absolutely no excuse. I don't find $20 every year or so abusive for a product that is being constantly improved. I reserved and paid for the Version 21 upgrade a few weeks back. I even upgraded to the master license which will let me run on my Raspberry PI system. As others have said, Ver 20 runs just fine on Windows 10 after a re-install. J River has probably had the Win 10 drivers in the software for some time and just requires a reinstall to trigger them.

...What is with Microsoft's counting system? Windows 3.1, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.... Win9 was too close to Win95/Win98. Some poorly written programs could think they were running on the later, so they skipped to 10. I never used 95/98. Many have forgotten that there were 2 parallel lines of Windows. DOS based Windows and the NT line. They didn't merge until Windows 2000. I went from DOS 3.11 to NT 3.11 and never looked back.. IMO Windows 10 is rock solid. The big question is what is MS going to do now? They have announced that Windows 10 is the LAST Windows version!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason for skipping from 8 to 10 is a simple coding one. Many programs check for OS versions so they won't install on older platforms. So do you think one would install on Windows 9 if it checked for "Windows 9x" so that it would not install on 95 or 98?

Why doesn't JRiver work on Windows 10? I have both versions 19 and 20 on my system and I just upgraded to Windows 10. Not a single problem with opening and playing back my media.

When my Win-10 update installed, JRiver quit & said to re-install.
I went to the JRiver website looking for anything that said Win 10 - Nothing there indicated such a version.
From what y'all are telling me, the Win 7 & 8 version of the software works fine with Win 10? If so, why doesn't the website say so - STUPID! - on the part of JRiver...
What flaws does the program have?
It won't auto recognize new DNLA destinations.
When you rip a disc, the program has to be closed & restarted before it will recognize another.
It frequently scrambles my cover artwork
It often plays the first two seconds of a song & then restarts the song
The Mac version of JRiver lacks most of the features that the Win version has (all the above bugs are specific to the Windoze version)
It isn't that there are so many bugs - It's that the SAME BUGS have persisted through multiple versions of JRiver and they NEVER GET FIXED.
Bah - Humbug!!!

...I went to the JRiver website looking for anything that said Win 10 - Nothing there indicated such a version.... Are you blind dude! See: J River Media Center Forum LinkSummation: Does MC run on Windows 10? Yes, but you may have to reinstall MC. If you own an MC20 or MC21 license, download the latest and install it. If you own an older version, please see Old Versions on our wiki. Why is MC crashing? Usually because of a driver problem. Try reinstalling the video driver. Where is my EPG (guide for television)? Microsoft made a big change. We're working on a solution and should be able to announce something next week. There is an EPG thread on the TV board here. Should I install Windows 10? If you don't have a good reason, it might be better to wait a week or two and see how other people do with it. How can I find out more? There are several threads the subject on this board and on the boards for MC21 and for hardware. Please read them. The most current information will be at the bottom of each thread.

When I upgraded to Win10, JRiver didn't work.
By removing and reinstalling JRiver, I got it to work. Remove it first. I downloaded the latest version 20, but my license had expired for it. I had to remove v20, and install v18 to get it to accept my license. It works now, retained all my settings and license; and immediately upgraded to the newest v18 version.
Sincerely /b
ps. I have never had artwork problems with jRiver; but then, all my artwork is embedded in each music file.

JRiver 20 runs fine on Win 10. That has been my experience(knock on wood) I have not reloaded anything. On the Windows front I had Vista and 8.1 both were stinko. I hope 10 is better. I too have had artwork cover glitches

BoomzillaI don't have a single one of the problems you are having with JRiver. Maybe your install is corrupted in some way. Quite odd! Mark
