I currently have all analog sources driving my USP-1 pre. This drives my UPA-2 amp. This has worked well but, now my plan is to go to just two digital sources: ERC-1 CDP and a music server (SONOS Connect). My USP-1 has no digital inputs so, I need a DAC. I figure I'd just get the DC-1 and connect both sources to it. Then I could drive my UPA-2 amps with that and just get rid of the UPS-1 pre.
Is there any downside to doing this? It sounds too simple, there must be a catch.
Thx, Rob
PS: I don't do TT or headphones with this system.

Hi! I can't help but feel that I saw this thread some time ago. I use a DC-1 direct with my trusty UPA-2. The DC-1 is clearer and has better top to bottom balance than the USP-1 but doesn't have a certain "it" factor that the USP-1 has in slam and musicality. When I turn the DC-1 up, it sounds slightly more strained than if I turned the USP-1 up. Some people may not find a difference at all. I reccomend getting the DC-1 and then seeing which sounds better - with the USP-1 or without.

I had the UPS-1 mated with my Odyssey Stratos (and was happy) but switched to the DC-1 when it came out for its versatility. Both sounded great but like Garbulky said the DC-1 was more transparent. There might be a tad less slam than with the the UPS-1 but it was a good trade-off.

Absolutely a great drive on any power amplifier. The DC-1 plays nice and is very transparent in its play. Gutsy too, you will plenty of gain. I love DC-1 for all it can do. Yes it's a great DAC too!

My DC-1 drives my RPA-1. Will be fine with your amp. Great sound, small footprint.
