Would it be possible to run a Sennheiser HD 650 off the balanced outputs set for variable level. Maybe not recommeded? TIA

I've actually done this using the XDA-1. (used two, 3 pin XLR's) Good news. It works. Bad news, not so much power. The actual headphone out would be more appropriate.

Wouldn't be ideal because of the impedance of the line out is not really designed to drive a headphone, and the voltage output is yes too low. Better bet would be the dedicated Headphone output of the DC-1, which is really good with plenty of Headroom, and high voltage rail output to drive most headphones effortlessly.

Thank both of you gentlemen for the replies. Guess I'll file that away with the many other "not so hot" ideas I've had over the years. LOL Thanks Again

I had fun trying out the balanced out direct to my HD600's. Even though it is not a good long term solution. The soundstage was really good when I did But in the end the lack of power and some mild balance issues - maybe due to impedance outputs really let it down. What I did is I used XLR to RCA wires from the XDA-1 XLR outputs. Then I used an RCA in to 3.5mm Jack out adapter on the XLR wires. Then I used an 3.5mm extender. And then plugged the HD600 directly in to that.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother... the DC-1's SE outputs are quite good and provide lots of power. (I do wish they had an option to invert the signal going to the second output and have balanced drive. If you are thinking that you're missing something, you could look at getting a separate headphone amp. This would be pretty high on my list www.cavalliaudio.com/index.php?p=product_details&pId=11If I didn't have a few LHLabs products coming.
