XPR-5

Hi everyone, I am new to the board, however I have been perusing the home theater online world for a couple years. I have recently been reading more about Dolby Atmos and finally decided to make the investment in new home theater equipment. I have several pieces that are going to require an upgrade and several additions (speakers/amplifiers), but I decided to first start with a preamp/processor and amplifier. This will be my first foray into separates and after a lot of time spent researching, I decided on a Marantz 8802 processor and an XPR-5 amplifier. My plan was to then add speakers and amplifiers to replace old ones and to add new surround/overheads down the road. I noticed that the XPR-5 was listed as sold out on the website so I contacted Emotiva and was disappointed to find out that the XPR line had been discontinued. I was very excited about the XPR-5 and its capabilities. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was going to be some sort of replacement line for the XPR's or if there is some other equivalent amplifier out there with as much bang for the buck. I was also considering Anthem, ATI and Audio Outlaw before deciding on the XPR-5, any thoughts?
Thanks for your help! J

Hello Brutus814. What are the speakers in question. Though the XPR-5 is not in stock, the XPA-5 is still an amazing amplifier. If you are considering Anthem, and ATI, and Audio Outlaw, the XPA-5 might surprise you how good it is.
The Improved refinements in the XPA-5 Gen 2 is a powerhouse of an amplifier. 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 300 into 4 ohms. This is a high current, high voltage swing amplifier that can rock with the best of them. The XPA-5 is well known as Emotiva's go too amplifier for years now. Ask anyone here who enjoys listening to one. Some cases 2 XPA-5 are used in a complete multi channel Bi Amp if you want to really make it crazy amazing. In some cases an XPA-2 drives the bottom front stage woofers, and the XPA-5 drives the front mid tweeter arrays, and the rest of a 5.1 effortlessly.
So While the XPR-5 is out of stock, that doesn't mean there are no more great Emotiva amplifier options. IMHO of course.

"I noticed that the XPR-5 was listed as sold out on the website so I contacted Emotiva and was disappointed to find out that the XPR line had been discontinued." Can anyone else confirm or deny with any authority the validity of the demise of the XPR line of amps?

You would think that there would be some type of warning for the demise of the XPR line. Tomorrow morning this should turn into a hot discussion.

I was pretty surprised too as I had not read anything about the line being discontinued and could not find anything when searching google. I asked the product specialist several times via email and he stated "ALL XPR series amplifiers will be discontinued when they are out of stock." and "There are no plans at this time to replace the XPR series amplifiers." If this is indeed true, is the XPA-5 of comparable quality as someone in this thread previously stated or is there a way to look at getting a used or refurbished unit?

I don't know how they were turning much profit selling that much iron for so little. Hope it's not true. Hopefully it's just paving the way for....XPR gen 2?! Or is that too much to hope?

Brutus, I would hook up with John to take his off his hands. That is a great deal. Outside of that go with the refurb XPR-5 if you think you need the extra oomph. Twice the rated power with the XPR over the XPA. John sold his XPR-2 too quickly for me to take advantage and scoop it up myself.

+1.
Agreed, this is a nice deal. Buying from Emotiva will cost you about $350 more but it will be pallet shipped and comes with a 5 year warranty.
Either way, the XPR-5 appears to be available.
If they come out with the gen2, it'll probably be a couple hundred more msrp.
