The XSP-1 is more of a two channel thing. IMHO 8)

I have had the XPA-2 / XPA-3 combo. I used it for years. I believe that you are going to see a nice improvement. adding additional subwoofers is a great suggestion as well.
Please report back to the forum about your impressions of the change and your satisfaction with the outcome.

Just for an update the XPA-2 does a great job with the OMD-28's. Big difference from the XPA-5 in overall impact from the speakers in 2ch mode. I do wish I could hear a mono block setup just to see how much difference there would be, but for now the XPA-2 is fine. I did just add a second PC-12 Plus sub and you guys are right that made a huge difference in the system. I have the subs "tuned" at 16 hertz and it is awesome. The bass just feels so much stronger and balanced overall. The upgrade from the second sub was much greater than the upgrade in amps.

HEY Dave, Sorry I'm a bit late on this conversation but I just saw this post and could not help but chime in. I had almost the exact system. Love the 28's. I was driving the 28's with XPA-1 Gen2 mono's and the rest of the system with an XPA-5 Gen2 in a 5.1 configuration (used extra 2 channels for another room) I am well aware of the power demands of the 28's. YOU NEED MONO BLOCKS. There is NO substitute for horsepower and the 1's have plenty. "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" Now I must admit that most of my listening is in two channel, but the extra horses and headroom the 1's offer is unbeatable. Did I say you NEED MONO BLOCKS. The primary benefit of mono's IMO is the lack of cross talk, which can be common in 2 channel amps. For me, mono's are the pinnacle of audio, they state that you have arrived. But seriously, the 1's just make the 28' sing!
Happy listening
