Interesting, so what happens if you buy something online from Alberta and have it shipped to some other Province that has PST, do they sock you with the local PST? If the final destination is another place I'll have to pay. It calculates for the shipping address, not the billing address. Sorry I probably could have worded the question a bit better, let me have another go. Say I'm a retailer based in Alberta (no PST) and I selling online to someone in say Ontario, I know that I would charge GST (that's a Federal Tax). But would I charge Ontario PST? Cheers Gary

Does the retailer in Alberta collect the PST from the buyer and then send it to Manitoba? How does Manitoba know to collect the PST and how much it is? Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary The way it is supposed to work is the seller charges the recipient the GST/HST rate of the province where it is being shipped. PST is only charged if the seller has a "permanent establishment" in the province where the item is being shipped (basically means employees, or a warehouse, or some business presence). So, in this case, Quebec-based seller would charge only the GST/HST rate applicable to the province where the Emotiva item is being shipped. (because it is sold online; if you picked it up in person, you would pay GST and QST) HOWEVER, mistakes do happen - I bought my Oppo online from a Quebec-based retailer and they incorrectly charged me only GST (5%), when they should have charged me NB HST (13%).

Cheers Gary It depends if they have an "office" in the non AB province and/or if they are registered for Provincial Sales Tax in the "other" province. If they are either tey collect the local sales tax, if not they don't. I buy all my skiing, bikes etc equip from the next province over and they ship it out with zero sales tax. their PST is the same as mine...8% so I save a bundle seeing as they don't charge shipping!

One could potentially have 3 or 4 taxes added on! GST-HST-QST-RST... ^^^^ This. However Chad creimes would be better to ask that one. As I said previously you only pay Provincial Sales Tax if: - you buy in a Province which has PST and you are not exempt - If you buy in a province which has or has not sales tax but have it shipped to a place that has PST and the reseller is registered for the shipping province PST or has an office in the shipping to province - All that being said you are "supposed" to pay the local PST where you live even if buying elsewhere in Canada on the honour system...and it gets worse... - If you buy in North Dakota and bring it into Canada you may be eligible for an exemption up to $800 Canadian and not taxes. If you live in Manitoba you also can apply to the North Dakota tax office to get a rebate for taxes paid on certain goods that you removed to Canada... Should I go on? lol - It actually can get worse when you add in GST (a federal tax on almost every thing) unless it is ZERO BASED, ZERO RATED, Exempt or...lol - Then there is combined Federal & Provincial taxes (HST Is one of them)... - And it goes on and on and on...the same as almost every where in the world... - The Canada/US exemption is great, but costs two days stay and meals, hotels etc...but the bggest savings for Manitobans is booze... Beer here is ~$55 for 24 cans/bottles plus taxes and fees... The same beer is ~$24 USD ($32 CDN)...

I struggle with the purchase every time. 20% sale, 10% membership discount on an already well priced product....
But the third party shipping is a lot, along with the 30% and up exchange rate....
It's hard to start my XPA-2 family, first purchased for L-R, then onto mono with second purchased. It's a goal anyway

There's an authorized emotiva dealer in Markham Ontario just north of Toronto . I believe it's Summithifi.com.
