Looks pretty interesting, but bye-bye to Toslink output! Oh too bad, that was a handy output. I don't suppose they've given us an Amazon streaming App? Maybe it will make its way into the App Store ... there will be a new ATV App Store, right?

Now we can just ask Siri if we miss something in the dialog of the movie and it will rewind the movie a few seconds... How long before we can ask Siri to make the popcorn?

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed about that, though I would imagine they are figuring that 90% of people plug these directly into TVs, and then 99% of the rest plug them into an AVR...

That's an interesting feature, not that it's that hard to hit rewind. As for the popcorn, I think you'll have to wait for the iStove scheduled for release Q2/17. I'm actually talking to Siri a lot more since I got my Apple Watch, though I feel a lot like bleep Tracy, it seems a useful place to communicate. Edit: I guess I can't use Mr. Tracy's first name, we can assume he was born a Richard.

I'll have to check it out but I bought the ATV specifically to connect to my XDA-2 with Toslink to stream music on the second system.

I read a comment else where that this new ATV is basically a Roku2 with a few features. I guess they mean processing power and such. I haven't read the specs yet, so I don't know. Anyone can post this info?
Thanks
Djoel

I'll pass. The Roku does it for me.

I'll pass. The Roku does it for me. Roku is a good unit, I'll admit my favorite feature of ATV is still AirPlay, and my biggest misgiving is that it won't stream Amazon (stupid feuds). I've kept a PS3 around just for Amazon, and hopefully can ditch that now. Certainly ATV appeals more to those with other iThings.

The new (soon coming) Fire TV from Amazon is said to be able to handle 4K.
Interestingly enough, the iPhone 6S can capture video in 4K, but can't play it back in 4K on its own screen. You will be able to cast it onto a 4k TV though...

Yeah, I kind of expected UHD as well, that would have really made it stand out. I wonder what that would add to the cost? Probably allows them to come out with a new model a year from now when there are more 4K sets (at least I hope it's not as long as last time between revs).

My iPad is little more than a dedicated Harmony Remote and music server to the ATV. I don't even have a TV connected to it.

I stream Netflix and Amazon through my Sony BRD player, I only use Apple TV for MLB.TV and I only use Roku for Acorn. I'm strange, I know.

Slightly surprised about lack of UHD but it's very logical in that the primary goal of this product (in Apple's view) is to sell content. Even though Apple can afford to offer 4k content, they must have opted against it. If they would have included UHD in this new version, Netflix and others might upstage Apple with content.
Am I incorrect that the new model will NOT support LAN streaming but only Apple's streaming service and cloud?
