My ripped vinyl sounds like good ripped vinyl. Well, they do if the vinyl was good in the first place. Some of the files are better than any cd version I have found, especially for early 80s cds. I do think I hear the ripped files, even the high res ones, lose a little in the high treble. It sounds a little glassy and clinical. But my family like listening to the files and it makes me smile when I am listening to an occasional pop and tic on my iPod!

I would like to have the option of ripping them. What TT is a good option for both? Would I need a USB TT or is there a better method?

There is a guy locally that has a project debut III for $200 and a technics SL-qx300 for $150, but since I'm new at this I'm somewhat concern at buying used. Is that a good price for either TT?

Have there been any upgrades to the Debut III ? Right now you can pick up a new one for 299.00. So for 200.00 if not a dealer you will pay no tax or possible shipping. It seems like a pretty good deal, but it really depends on your value of the turntable and what you want to invest.

A large part of the vinyl hobby can be a waste of time, frustrating, even tantalizing at times... but nevertheless I am all for the part that isn't. You should IMO try to avoid using cheap USB turntables like you should try to avoid (if your budget allows you to avoid them) cheap non USB turntables. Transferring vinyl to digital can be a perfectly good idea especially if you can manage to stretch your budget in order to invest in a worthy ADC/DAC combined with specialized editing software (iZotope RX). This software will allow you to manually remove clicks and pops whilst leaving the transients of the musical instruments intact. (I know... it can be VERY time consuming, and requires some skills and experience, but not all vinyl records have that many clicks or pops, and, once you have learned how to do it right, the end result can blow you away and get you thoroughly hooked like the naysayers never even existed). However, that Trans-Fi Audio Terminator Pro (T3Pro) tonearm, that was mentioned earlier in the thread, is one of the primary reasons why I think vinyl can be true magic. The audible improvement that you can get from it IMO is quite simply enormous (and, also IMO, a lot bigger than the excellent SME 309 tonearm can provide)... albeit the sound is still determined by the weakest link. So skimping in other areas like, for example, the phono preamp (or cartridge, but $4,000 cartridges are near useless if they can't track the grooves of most of your favorite LPs...) is not a viable option if going this route. So it's also a matter of balance and synergy, patience, determination, and willingness to learn and improve your own skills. But you already own a very excellent preamp. Therefore I can only suggest one thing. Just go for it!

Hi, I would like to venture into the world of vinyl, but know nothing about it, so I need some advice. I have seen some music hall turntables that Emotiva sells. Are those any good? (Like the USB-1). I'm thinking that (digitizing an LP)would defeat the purpose of vinyl to begin with, but I think it does analog as well. Is there a better table for around the same price point? Any suggestions as to where to begin would be welcome or is this a waste of time. Thanks just get one of these and call it a day ,, sorry no usb...
