As per usual with Apple updates I just closed what was open, pushed the update button, poured another glass of red wine and came back when it was finished. Reopened what I wanted and moved on, no big deal.
Cheers Gary

I run 8gb of ram which is plenty, it's slowed down so much it's pathetic and I would only have one program open and running, I should take it to the Apple store and be like WTF dudes I would consider backing up your data, and doing a clean install of El Capitan. You won't have any remnants of the older OS X's and you can usually re-install most of your paid apps from the App store quite easily. You'll have to copy your data back to the right places, or have Time Machine do it, but it will use less space and perform better if you do this. I agree 8GB is plenty for decent performance. Well got the fresh install done, I keep my iPhoto and iTunes libraries on an external HD, went into my iPhoto settings and changed the library location and all is well but iTunes not so muc, changed it and nothing happens and can't see any of my music ? Chad: Did you back up your data before doing the clean install as recommended by AudioHTIT? The clean install removes all the stored data on the mac, including the i-tunes library, and that is what makes the back-up necessary. If you your library (i-tunes media folder) backed up on a disk, just drag-and-drop it right back to where it belongs (Home=>Music=>itunes) and your music will reappear in i-tunes.

So you had previously pointed your iTunes media to your external drive, and now you've pointed it to the same place? I assume you can navigate to that location in finder and see all of your music? As sahmen asked did you do any backup (full or data only)? Obviously if you can see your music you can get it back. Do you sync any iDevices? That does take a few extra steps to be seamless.

Yeah really strange, I changed the library location as I did before but it would not pick anything up until I did the ad to library function haha, ah well got it working now. Chad
