Hello everyone I'm new here and have a question about the xpa-5 amp,I have a Yamaha 2050 avr with atmos and was wondering if the xpa would be a good choice to add more power to my Yamaha. Also I've never used a avr and separate amp together I've used pre-pros with amps with no problems. My main question is matching the Yamaha with the xpa and using Emotivas 1 meter rca cables will I get any hum? Are the Emo rca cables good? Thxs sry for such a long post.

Welcome to our/your madness!! So glad you've found us. Yours is a very short post compared to some/many that are regulars here! I have run a Yamaha 3020 with the XPA-5 for some time before " change " happened to my system. You will be very thrilled with the change in your system!. The XPA-5 is a workhorse and personally I think every HT system should have one. as far as a hum, the only way to find that out is to try the amp with your Yamaha, no real way to tell till then IMHO. ONCE AGAIN, WELOCME TO THE NUTHOUSE,!

Welcome to the group. I have a less sophisticated Yamaha HTR-6090 running two XPA-1L's via Monster coax ICs and I have zero hum.

Welcome! And, the xpa-5 is sort of the "gateway drug" to an Emotiva addiction. It is a fine amp and should boost your system nicely. Of all the Emo gear I have owned, it is the one most likely to stay in my system for longer than any other. I have had and sold or redeployed to other systems an xpa-2, usp-1, xsp-1, umc-1, and dc-1 since I bought my xpa-5. It is a workhorse.

The XPA-5 is the great go to amplifier, and has been for years. Power, flexibility, single ended RCA, and XLR Balanced support says yeah, I will work great with any Preamplifier or Receiver. As far as hum, and noise, a quality Shielded RCA cable and good cable management away from AC power cables for example is usually all you need to do. Do you have any noise or hum sources you here now with your current setup? If no, than you should be in fine shape. If you do have hum issues, you want to look into resolving those so your XPA-5 can give you the greatest dynamics and headroom it was designed to give you. And of course welcome to the land of Emotiva, where the music, and movies are always playing. Enjoy the ride.

Thxs everyone,no hum in my system,no offence to anyone but ive heard about Emotiva products being sub standard,I figured it was just brand snobs,In my living room I have a Vizio TV and one for 8 yrs in my bedroom,I think there great TVs but they have a bad rep also.Emotiva amps look great to me never heard one,but the guts of them look like there built well,I just ordered a xpa-5 and rca cables, website says out of stock but the nice lady on the phone got me one.I've been reading here and it says not to plug the amp into a power surge protector just straight into a wall socket,do you guys do that?

Well the xpa5 finally came late last night, haven't hooked it up yet but I'm impressed with how it is packaged,I have a panamax power strip with some of my equipment is plugged into should I just use it for the xpa5,everything in my HT is 20 amp and so is the panamax,I thought it would be better that the Yamaha xpa where connented to the same power strip

Should be fine, as long as your power strip's not current limiting.

Thxs,it would be easier to use the panamax, but I have extra 20 amp outlets, when I wired the ht I put in 4 dedicated 20 amp outlets. All I have plugged into the panamax is the Yamaha avr & blu-ray player

I once owned a Yamaha RXV-1065 and purchased two UPA-1's and ran my mains off the amps connected to my Yamaha via RCA cables and it was a definite improvement, congrats on the XPA-5 I have one and love that amp.

Well I finally got everything in place,I don't like the rca cables that emotive makes I'm sending them back there kind of cheap, sorry emotiva, also they way there made they wouldn't separate enough to reach the rca inputs on the amp, anyone out there have a Yamaha atmos 2050 avr connected to the xpa5,I'm having trouble with figuring out how to connect the front height-ceiling spks from the Yamaha to the amp

I would put your most demanding speakers on the xpa-5 (fronts, center, surrounds) and let the yamaha handle the heights.

Thxs,xpa5 only having 5 CH I guess I'll just use 3 of the amps for LCR since I have 6 surround spks, also is a coaxial cable that we used in the days before HDMI the same as a standard rca cable,I unscrewed the ends and they look the same except the coaxial is better built.

A little update on the xpa5,its a great amp! Watched the new Terminator movie in atmos the sound was A+! Emotiva amps are much better than I thought,no hum or noise complete silence from my spks,I should have just got the 3 CH model because I can only use it for LCR,my original plan was to power the 3 fronts and 2 atmos but you can't do that with the Yamaha 2050,later I'm might get a 2 CH emotiva so I can power the other 4 surrounds.

Typically when there is hum it's a grounding problem, and not tied to the quality of any of the gear involved (whether Emotiva or any other brand).
